It’s just another Monday morning
And I board a train to my office.
In another few seconds,
Pushing through people,
I grab a seat.
Like every other day
I start checking my emails.
Soon I realise
The battery is about to die;
I feel like gibbering in panic –
I have to check my calendar
To arrange the meeting invites.
To my horror my mobile shuts off,
Leaving me perplexed
About what to do next.
The journey takes two hours.
Everyone is busy with their devices
And I am left to see things
I have never noticed.
From the window I see
Bare trees covered in snow,
Autumn leaves scattered
On both sides of the road,
Christmas trees lit up,
Each street with its own unique lights;
Poinsettias are everywhere
At this time of the year.
The world outside appears like a canvas
Painted in different colours and shades,
But I barely noticed.
I chose a gadget over God’s creation.
When was the last time
I played in the snow?
I never left my gadgets
To make my kid a snowman,
In my awakening
I decide not to surrender
Pushing through people,
I grab a seat.
Like every other day
I start checking my emails.
Soon I realise
The battery is about to die;
I feel like gibbering in panic –
I have to check my calendar
To arrange the meeting invites.

To a device driven life!
