Dark Deep Woods (2022 Poem 2)

The Dark Deep Woods

Near a faerie ring of glowing rocks
Gleaming eyes of a woodland fox
Amongst those woods, dark, and deep
I think back to our many walks

My campfire crackles, spitting hot sap
Sticks of wood bundled on my lap
Draped on branches, steaming socks
Deep in the woods, a repeating tap

Between the woods and frozen lake
My white-cold fingers begin to shake
What could it hurt to take a nap
When the sun arrives I shall wake

Inspired by the lines “The woods are lovely, dark and deep,” AND “Between the woods and frozen lake” from the poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, by Robert Frost

(Prompt: Read Robert Frost’s poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, chose one line or phrase, and with credit, write a poem with that line or phrase in it.)

Water (2022 Poem 1)

Water

luscious commodity of life
washing our feet clean
wildflowers grow
bringing hope
as deer play
with water
we exist

yet
storms run wild
rains fall and fall
streets become rivers
waves beat upon the house
islands were not there before
refrigerators float along the shore

(Prompt: Write a poem about being in water.)

I Want To Break Free (2019 Poem 24)

morning has broken
should i stay or should i go
fly like an eagle

i want to break free
boulevard of broken dreams
with or without you

killing me softly
another one bites the dust
how deep is your love

the final countdown
we didn’t start the fire
with a rebel yell

The Getaway (2019 Poem 23)

I
Dreams of cattle in my room
As I wake before the dawn
I see my breath form vapour clouds
And slink downstairs to put my clothes on

II
It’s warmer near the living room fire
Yet cool enough I do not tarry
I get changed behind the couch
Hiding from TV Anchor Norm Perry

III
Stoke the stove to heat the water
Breakfast must be skipped today
Time to search the neighbourhood
For the cows that got away

FTW (2019 Poem 22)

What a surprise to find you here
Though where you came from isn’t clear
All alone, seemingly aloof

Hiding from the common people
Over here by the church steeple
Lurching on this concrete roof

Sugar maple for the win!

Tall Cats Are Terrible Hunters (2019 Poem 21)

We’ve been together
For a while now
It’s time we talked

I’ve nursed you
Back to health
And bathed you

Gave you cuddles
Rubbed your tummy
When you’re sad

Lucky you’re adorable
You’re absolutely helpless
Frightened of a moth

As for spiders?
Don’t even get me started
So I brought you supper

It’s more nutritious
Than that disgusting stuff
You call crunchy num nums

Erasure (2019 Poem 20)

Erasure of “The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot

Let us go then, you and I
The evening is spread out against the sky
To lead you to an overwhelming question
Do I dare
Disturb the universe
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons
So how should I presume
The afternoon, the evening, sleeps so peacefully
But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed
I am no prophet
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker
And in short, I was afraid
Would it have been worth while
To have squeezed the universe into a ball
To roll it towards some overwhelming question
I grow old … I grow old …
And walk upon the beach
I have heard the mermaids singing
I do not think that they will sing to me

“The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot

Dear Future Soul (2019 Poem 19)

In reply to Letter From The Future Poem 11

Dear future me aged forty-nine
Perhaps it’s time to drink some wine
I think I know just what to do
First thing on the list, ignoring you

Got this living life thing figured out
I can do anything, I have no doubt
Cute and shy, but I am smart
I won’t lose the truth that’s in my heart

Save your messages for those in need
I’ll find what I want with all due speed
Though I don’t know yet what I’ll be
It will be great, just wait and see

Dear Dawn (2019 Poem 18)

Why have you arrived at this late hour
Did you hit the snooze on your alarm too many times
I’ve been working since you went to bed
We have much to do, nothing else need be said

I’ve finally realized I have the power
Now is the time to bring to life our vision board
We’ve wasted time on hopes and dreams
Turns out none of it was what it seems

Dandelion In The Sun (2019 Poem 17)

Pools of yellow in the sun
I plucked you from fathers lands
Sap sticky on my childhood hands

Gone to seed in a perfect sphere
Laughing as you kissed my chin
I blew your seeds into the wind
