The Entity – Prompt 19, Hour 19

It was seen in the ocean, they gave it a name

It didn’t like that… It left.

They forgot about it, it fell to legends and myth.

It didn’t like that either… it came back.

When it returned the world trembled,

for it was longer than anyone previously measured

and nearly invisible above sea level.

Soon people were snatched up by it,

first children and small animals,

then the neighbors, marine biologists.

Then it became angry. We made the thing angry.

It stopped being methodical, it went full stealth,

It killed all the soldiers, the doctors, the farmers.

It destroyed all the roads and fried all the cars.

That horrifying creature from the deep.

Then I went to bed, woke up, it all was well.

There was no sign of that demon from hell.

Until I saw the paper, of this creature from the deep.

Perhaps it was just a dream. Perhaps a vision from my sleep.

A huge siphonophore Apolemia sea creature is shown in this close-up view.

Snow Day -Prompt 18 Hour 18

Snowflakes fell last night
Cold, uncaring, a slurry
Today we woke up hopeless
Then out the window we saw them.
Mom was grouchy, dad was gone,
she didn’t tell us to get dressed.

Other than the driveways and roads
the ground was white with snow
Trees looked bleak and black
We drank hot cocoa for breakfast
and when it was warmer out we sang with joy
outside wearing our winter best.

Then evening came and dad returned
to ruin all our fun.
He came from work with uniform
And salt buckets by the ton.
He melted all our snowmen
and angles one by one.

That’s why I hate Snow Days.

Key-Pad Cell Phones – Prompt 17, Hour 17

The fuck?

The fuck are all these buttons?

Where are all the apps?

How do I text with this?

The Fuck?

No wonder people get addicted
to ease of use smartphones
when they used to have to press
1-9 multiple times just to say
the fuck.

I just wanted a smart phone!

Not this 1980’s futuristic communicator!

This star walking, alien fighting pos!

The fuck!

I did not ask for a phaser and assignment
To some star fleet ship, I have no desire to explore
the world beyond our galaxy or whatever,
it can’t even run flappy bird,
the fuck.

For my husband – Prompt 16, Hour 16

Your smile, your face, your eyes
The way you take care of yourself
The way you always try to help me,
Even when you can’t
This is what I crave.
Your touch, your smell
The look of your face after a shave
The way you laugh, the way you snore
This is what I appreciate when you’re gone.
Your sweet demeanor,
Your tight embrace,
I admire how you caress my face

If ever my words seem harsh
I’m sorry, dear, I have your best interests
At heart.
You fill me with glee and peace.

The Joy of Flying -Prompt 15, Hour 15

I feel like a wire, electric

I feel like time itself is below,

entire worlds just frozen, tiny

A metal carapace is all that stops

The world from meeting me too fast

Thousands of feet up in the air

hundreds of feet in little blue chairs

My ears are popped as we descend

I cannot wait to fly again.

Leg Lifts – Hour 13, Prompt 13

Every day, at the witching hour
I do this chore expected
not by anyone but me
and my doctor if left uncorrected.
I spend my last vestige of energy
doing leg lifts.

Up, down, in and out,
In a loop, day in and out..
Leg lifts are safe for me.
With an injured back and
a pool that’s closed, it’s leg lifts for me.
Every day at the witching hour.

The Book Prompt -Hour 12, Prompt 12

Lyra and her daemon moved through the darkening hall, taking care to keep to one side, out of sight of the kitchen.

A daemon’s after me
darkening my door,
No clue if it’s bad or good
It lingers in the hall
While I try to get food
It never enters my kitchen
Sometimes I wonder why
It just suddenly starts bitchin’
Pacing just out of sight.
I suppose I should care more
When it’s moved to such stress
So I guess I’ll ask the daemon
why it vexes me with such care.

Her name is Lyra,
she’s neither good nor bad.
She says she keeps an eye out
For the goodness to be made
She likes to keep things neutral
and I’m the last one undecided.
Through the years the daemons battled
Each on the side of time
Taking souls for one goal:
Resetting the world for all time.
I guess that’s a good enough reason
I didn’t probe much further.
I asked why she didn’t enter my kitchen
And she just laughed?

The Goblin’s Grotto – Prompt 11, Hour 11

Cool, damp, and muddy
Not one but two larger ears
A horde of green friends

Mushrum lurking tall
Goblin beneath oh so short
Eating bugs for fun

Big tall humanoid
Stompy Stompy go his boots
Spores are on the loose

Threatening Bad Time
Goblins run and hide, slip, fall
splash! the grotto’s wet

Mushrooms sway, spores float
Goblins are safe but not dry
The caves are now home

A frog as black as midnight.

That Moonshadow.

But frogs don’t make much conversation
Their little croaks ain’t words
They ain’t able to bring me joy

Black as midnight is to day~
