Jan Rog // Half-Day Poetry Marathon #4 , Here We Go!

Good Morning, Everyone,

I’m Jan from Kansas City, MO.  Thanks to the remarkable leaders, editors, and poets who bring such wonderful energy to these events! Along with you, I’ll begin soon. Since our last marathon, I’ve become involved with a community-based Storytellers for Change, written poems and vignettes, walked daily in neighborhood “caminos” which began in 2020, read at my mother’s retirement home, cried and screamed into pillows as school changes made for even more pivots, let go of so many expectations because peace of mind is preferable to control that leads to craziness, hugged many more friends I hadn’t seen for a long time, and tried to sleep well each night. My husband, Steve, has been through all of these adventures and misadventures — verses and reverses — along with me. In fact, he is lending support to my poetry writing today: planning lunch, making me tea, and cheering me on.  True, I struggle as I continue to heal from a ruptured brain aneurysm, but I am the luckiest woman I know.

Let the Poems Begin!

Jan

    1. To Ingrid @itexner, Thank you! You are correct, Storytellers are amazing; this past week I also told many of them about these Poetry Marathons. I’ll be checking in on your poems throughout this afternoon.
