Cut loose,
new freedoms spring
from explosive endings.
I’m blind to them
such is the chaos,
grieving loss,
shaken questioning of self,
the tumult of new beginnings.

I lost my husband 6 years ago. In some ways I am still trying to pick up the pieces but I feel I’m finally beginning again. Definitely been blind to new freedoms. Your poem has captured my experience perfectly. My favorite phrase is “the chaos of grieving loss”. Thank you for capturing what I’ve been going through and putting into words that which I couldn’t explain in such as profound way.
Dear gailmarie
I am so sorry for your loss.
I’m glad the poem has resonance for you. Change requiring such adjustments are so very difficult especially when they are imposed on you and feel beyond your control. I wish you well on your journey. I had a series of unanticipated losses. Divorce etc. I think one has just got to learn to be kinder to oneself. It’s a lesson that took me some time to learn! People looking from the outside don’t necessarily understand what’s going on for the people going through it. Thank you for your kind words.
