Fin

The only gift I ever wanted came to me,
The only thing I’ve ever wanted, since I was three
When all I ever wanted was to be
Happily married
To, exactly, only and both: Brad and Dee

Forever happened forever and it never came to me
Forever happened for far too long, and I failed to see
Why forever happened differently for all others and for me
Why forever never happened like I wanted it to be

Fourfuxsäk, it isn’t fair at all
I’m twice as nice, at least, as Sally Know-It-All
And nearly, almost as pretty as that girl you knew before
Besides, you said I was the most beautiful – and even more
You said I was the smartest and the easiest to talk to
You said I was the most amazing girl you ever knew
You SAID you’d be here TOMORROW – and, didn’t you ever learn?
Finders-Keepers and Indian Givers never found a thing they’d earn

It’s fine.
It’s all just fine-and-dandy, now.
And you can keep on chewing cud with that heifer you call a cow
(And I don’t mean that girl you’re sleeping with these days
I haven’t anything against her; and you’re just living in a haze
Deceit is worst, you know, when you turn it on yourself
But that’s for me to know and you to find in some book upon your shelf)

It’s FINE, I said, because, you know that guy across the way?
No, not that way; the other way – I met him twice the other day
And twice again the next morning, twice in the afternoon
‘Cause he kept on showing up with the clockwork of the moon
Everything HE did, he said to me he’d do
And there he was, sure-as-shock and true as true is true

It’s fine; he’s fine; we’re fine; I’m fine
And all is right-as-rain
I’ll catch up with you another time
I’m seeing him again

And every time I see him, it’s his mind I treasure more
For that, alone, is all I wished to even up the score
Somehow, he’s just the type of guy to open up my door
(A bit my dad would be proud of, it’s his favorite romantic lore)

And, though I never wanted for gifts of pretty rings
He hunts in every shop we pass for jewelry and things
He tells me: What he wants for me is that I’ll always know
His heart is mine forever (this he says with eyes aglow)
And never must I worry that his mind is true, as well
For, he says, I’m astounding and without me, he’s in hell

Isn’t it the strangest thing, to find one’s counterpart?
I’d be scared – except, with him, I can’t but spill my heart
And every word I speak to him, and every word I write
Is naught but merriment to him, perfection and delight

It started with the smallest thing: We each said what we felt
And all protections fell away while hearts and minds together melt.

So, if you don’t believe in love, don’t believe my words are true
I dare you to risk all you are and see if it works for you.

Resonate

Faint flickers,
Grandmother’s stories,
Lead into maternal line,
Knowing at once where,
The key departed John left,
Her friend called her the day,
After he died as he had promised he would.

Forwards and inert chest flicker,
Always felt not seen nor heard,
Deciphering all the lies and junk,
Just trust that gift inside resonate,
Utilising weirdness to find,
Just knowing innately,
What is happening about.

Passed down to one never unwrapped,
Slowly understood ripening along me,
Undoing the need for words,
Feeling out what is actually there,
Sensing the gaps fabricating and such,
In detection a chance to relieve that weight,
Open sun card – bloom pollinate in trust.

The Healer

I lay my hands on the bodies of those in pain
I feel their suffering as my own
Electric currents crackle around my body
The barely audible hum of energy like an ethereal aum
It is my mission to bring relief to the weary
I am an instrument of the divine to heal human kind
I channel love in my heart and focus it with my mind
Many ailments are from emotional hurts never released
Scars from old lovers, parents, and priest
I realign their chi using empathy and intuition
I cure root causes, while western medicine treats the symptoms
I remove things that block their flow
The word he–al means to beckon God
So I channel a glorious glow
I use that glow to catalyze their own energetic tides
We are all holy so everything we need to be whole is already inside

Hour 24, A Hallmark Holiday

One of the unasked for upsides
to being richly blessed
with loving family
is the many wonderful
gifts from them I have received.

One that stands out, though,
is a gift that the sender
had no idea would be so profound.

My first husband was abusive,
did not value me as a wife or mother.
He declared Mother’s Day stupid,
a Hallmark holiday with no real meaning,
and so for years its only commemoration
was by what teachers created.

That marriage eventually failed
a shock to no one but him,
and I began to date online
a new old love from high school.

He lived far away in Germany,
I and my children in the States,
but constant online contact
meant he knew me and the children well.

The last Mother’s Day before we married
he sent a sumptuous gift,
flowers, chocolates, fruits, sausages
and cheeses, and a beautiful note
took me by such complete surprise,
I cried.

Years of neglect and cruelty
had trained me to expect nothing,
so simply being remembered
became extraordinary.

Hair Weaving (Prompt 22)

Grandmother used to braid feathers into my hair
Her dark skin and eyes contrasted
My blonde and green

When friends began to pass away
I braided feathers into my hair
And did not remove them
Until they fell out on their own

There were feathers when I lost my grandfather
Then my great grandfather and at least 7 friends
I lost count of how many have been worn
Spirit wings of mourning meant to carry love onwards

#24 Gift

Mobile phones were still transitioning from

Luxury to necessity during my college days,

I never wanted one, never asked for one,

I knew there were bills that needed to be paid.

My brother walked in one evening,

A brand new Motorola flip phone in his hands

‘For you,’ he said, smiling happily,

This was a month’s salary, plus savings that he had.

Even he didn’t have one, and he worked,

Yet, he thought of me first,

He beamed as he gave it to me,

I stood there speechless, I had no words.

That moment’s significance has grown with time,

The sacrifice, the ready compromise,

This simple selfless gesture,

I cannot recall it with dry eyes.

I have had many phones after that,

But that tiny black phone holds a special place in my heart,

It stands for everything my brothers and I were, still are,

Each other’s backbones, even when apart.
