Infinite

Prompt 19 (Half Marathon 2 Hour 7)

I stare up at the night sky, dotted with stars
And I am no longer in my body
I float upward till I see what they are
Balls of fire, orange and gaudy

I see Earth in all its blue and green
A contrast to its unfriendly looking neighbors
Then I speed through the entirety of the galaxy
Past planets, moons with massive craters

Now I’m in a galaxy far far away
I see a new planet from afar
With sentient beings going about their day
A planet not too different from ours

But as I move closer, lo and behold
There exists nothing but dust
What I saw was a snapshot that was as old
As the light from it that I now touch

And then I am back in my backyard
Staring up at the night sky
When I departed, I felt tall, strong, and sharp
I return, but a humble fly

Color Drip

Dip a finger in the melted wax

Cool on your finger, hardening

Fire is dancing

A cigarette lit from flame

He once told me that smoking is the most

Intimate you can get with fire

Swirling in your lungs

Elbowing everything on its way out

Cancer is inevitable

In the moment I don’t mind

For now this ember I’m sucking on

Is my torch

Glow of string lights in a backyard

Firepit roaring

An excuse as to why I smell smokey

Flames intoxicating

A candle on my desk

Sitting in an old wine bottle

Echoing a crescendo of laughter

Rings of color within, like the rings in a tree

Spilling over the bottle

Forging its own path

Settling into the cool glass

I will not disturb it

Here I will write

In the dancing gold

Flickering on my paper

Words entangled with smoke

Hour 17- the techno train

Radio broadcasts, vinyl on the technology driven train

silent movies on tv, never seen again.

The eighties with the cassette tapes

rewind, fast forward, play

the dreaded job of winding film

could often take a day!

The compact disc phenomenon

the no fuss way to play

Any song of your choice

a far easier way!

Then we had the USB

A port you could plug in

in just a matter of seconds

all music for the win.

Now we have Spotify, YouTube and iTunes

I’m certain more will take their place

Over many many moons.

《And Dig In.》

Shards

Rainbow fragments

scattered across the kitchen floor.

Small pudgy hands grab at them, as low golden sun

hangs heavy, low and sweet

in the afternoon heat.

Tamas:

edge of darkness in
two caliginous corners of the world;
inky midnight – yours,
seductive pre-dawn, mine.
gathering desire in lonelier arms…

some alchemy,
in the silhouette and daguerreotype;
caressed by caliginous contours
of plumes,
all negativity turns to light!

Prompt 20 hour 20

eyes float across the vast
a room filled with darkness can be any size
but a small amount of light
can help you find your bearings

Whisper

You, almost silent

Musical prophecies with rarely discernible words but energies

A self-made metaphor for your life

Speak to me

In a language crafted in the minuscule pause between heartbeats

While I shout

Everything

Loud

Words

Are the accumulated wealth of my lifetime’s

Work

Laid at your alter of Apollo – hidden out of sight

Sarawati’s appreciation – gilded with insight

Acknowledged in the silence that lets us hear rhythm

The contrasting opposite that creates the  whole

The unbreakable bond that urges us to freedom

And the person that is our spiritual home.

One marathon to join them all

From across the globe they gathered
defying timezones and technology
bringing their poems
haikus, sonnets, rhymes, limericks, elegies, odes, and so much more

Some wrote through the night
some wrote though to dawn
hour by hour
word by word
so passionate so strong

Learning, teaching, and growing
devouring prompts one by one
all moved and shifted through time
channelling the mighty mythical Chimera

One poet alone
cannot embody the mission of the marathon
it takes them all.

Prompt 20, Hour 20

Because it’s probably very dark out right now for most of the participants, the prompt for this hour is to write a poem involving light of any kind, from the sun, to a lamp to a candle.
