Prompt 15 Flying high

Drawing Conclusions
before the experience
was all I could do
Any place I ever went was within car range

You can hardly feel the bumps and bruises of travel in the air
and on planes no humidity happens
just turbulence
just pressure
just sound
and prayers
I pray more in the air than on roads

Scrunching up my nose
there is no air to smell up there

You meet the night’s sky in it
it was memorable
planning to go by myself
leaving my children for the first time
feeling full of adventure and falling in love with the space in between

Hour 19: Childrens’ New Year

The kids catch the tail-end of the holiday films
While parents tidy away the odds and ends,
choose their best jeans and fix their hair.
The new toys are now up in the bedrooms.
A pink glow from the tree shines on for the new year.
Adults fill the house, the rooms, the kitchen, the stairs,
along with alcohol vapor and blue filaments of cigarette smoke.
Children gingerly make their way among them, observing.
The night wears on to a count down
when everyone forms a circle, singing about forgetting
The children can barely reach.
Parents help the children socialize and say goodnight.
Despite the pounding heartbeat of the music through the floor
they doze their way to New Year’s Day.

My Only Defense

(hour 18)

By Sandy Lender

Like sunshine streaming through clouds

…after forty days of torrential storm

Like the first absence of throbbing

…after the pounding, constant migraine

Like the gentle brush of butterfly wings

…after fire has consumed the world around us

Is the comfort of knowing you petition for me

…in the presence of our Father.

Santa Isn’t Real (hour 18, prompt 18)

“What did Santa bring you?” Asked Mommy on the phone. Her eyes were big as saucers as she looked ’round her daddy’s home. Her little heart was broken as she sobbed into the phone, “I must’ve been a bad girl, Mommy…Santa didn’t come.”

“No!” Mommy reassured her, “Santa didn’t know! He thought you were at my house; that’s where he was supposed to go. You should see the presents he left under the tree! Grandpa’s on his way to get you; he’ll bring you to me.”

But it was too late; the damage, done. Somehow, she was a bad girl; she was the naughty one. She cried as she waited, and held her unicorn so tight. Tears flooded her sapphire eyes like a million points of light.

When Gramps got there he told her to go wait in the car. But she didn’t make it to the door when she heard the yelling start.

“You’re just a waste of fucking space, you broke your daughter’s heart! Looks like cocaine was more important and worth ripping her apart. You’re nothing but a piece of useless trash, and now you’ve got 2 seconds before I kick your fucking ass!”

She couldn’t hear what daddy said; her ears were born all broken. But somehow she knew what Gramps had said were the truest words he’d ever spoken.

Then dad came falling down the stairs, and Gramps had a bloody fist. “Gramps, now, Grammy said we’re not supposed to hit!”

He reminded her she was supposed to wait outside. Then picked her up and carried her out to their waiting ride.

She was only 3 years old, but felt all a broken heart could feel.

And at 40 she remembers how she learned that Santa wasn’t real.

a human soul in life movement

known movement of humanity

seen in history and religions

converging in cultures and governance

always called in its own order

covering in the haven for continuing times

seen in life history humanity learns anew

cornering in the loving movement

converging in the life desires

freedom still freeing out

freedom guarantee

weighing out

still a question remains

Poem # 24

Hour 18: July 4th

July 4th is a lie
It’s not Independence Day
Until everyone is equal
Your fireworks and celebration
Mean nothing when there
Are still kids in cages
At the border
So drink your beer
While Flint, Michigan
Still needs clean water
Grill your burgers and hot dogs
While the homeless starve
Gather with your friends
Without the fear of someone
Calling the cops just because
The color of your skin
And celebrate your life
Of comfortable freedom
While LGBTQA+ teens die alone
By their own hands.
How does your white privilege look
Through rose colored glasses?

11:00 a.m Time spills out of her hands

Time seemed to skidd in one place and whirl in one vicious circle:

cleaning pots, baking bread and carrying heavy buckets,

there was no a grain of attractive activity in all days, in all deeds:

neigbouring girls were addicted with chatting, snapping sunflower seeds.

The uncontrolled, unmeasured flood of time she swam in,

she perceived like a trap to be caught in between:

dreaming and realization, planning and  self- correction,

crying and wiping tears with own hands and trusting imagination.

Hour 15- Man made bird

I am not fond of air travel

Airbus, Boeing, A380 or jet,

How can something so heavy fly?

I cannot seem to get.

The take off feels like g-force

the terrifying soar

My palms start to sweat

I tighten my jaw.

My body feels fear right down to my core.

We’ve made the 30000 climb

and just when you think it’s going to be fine,

a bump and a shake you feel you’ve hit a comet

It’s just a few air pockets that encourage you to vomit.

Every minute feels like hours,

Every dip feels like death

Finally it time to land

and I can claim my breath.

Round and round #6

the world turns round and round
never stopping for a moment
moving faster and faster
ever changing and evolving

except one day it all stops
the world has changed
we’ve all been stopped in our tracks
by a virus moving faster and faster
ever changing and evolving

the world turns round and round regardless
never stopping for a moment
moving slower and slower
still ever changing and evolving
