prompt 14 hour 14 – all my Mothers

prompt 14 hour 14

all my Mothers

“The land knows, you even when you are lost.”

and I was so lost

so very lost that summer –

the summer after she was gone

and we brought her home;

dad and I.

truthfully,

I was lost before then even

when the burrs would get stuck in my hair –

after fucking for love

and face

in the back field

on the dry Earth

on grasses more brittle than my self respect.

She knew me then

before I could see me.

she knew me then

held my wounded heart,

broken soul,

in both hands

holding me together

until I could remember me, too.

truthfully,

I thought I knew better later

when I thought I knew better than my mother

forgotten to me piece by piece

of my wounded heart,

broken soul

under the weight of bottles

too heavy to hold anymore

in my shaking fists.

this land refused to hold her

with this flood of forgetting the story of

who brought whom into the world in the first place.

She knew me then –

this land I loved –

when I took my mother’s ashes where we would skate together

on frozen, bumpy pond water

snapping beneath the surface

like my longing to piece it all back together:

-her fragments in the pill bottles we carried her in, to the places we left her

-the days before her despair when we could laugh and heal

-my broken treaty with the places I loved, who loved me back when my mother couldn’t

“the land knows you, even when you are lost,”
and I have been lost,

only remembering myself back to life

because She remembered me,

until I could find my way back to all my Mothers.

Prompt 11: New Zealand

I wonder, always wonder when will I grace your presence, O' lush New Zealand.

The Maori are your people, filled with dances like the haka and poi.

May I join you soon, I've been longing for far too long.

Don’t Say the “L” Word (Hour 16)

It’s a moment in a crowded room
when your eyes fall upon a single person, laughing,
chatting, moving faster than the rest of the party,
yet her movements are smooth, fluid,
slowly registering in your mind.

It’s a poem spoken in conversation,
that ends in silence,
but continues separately
as each person thinks of what to say next.

It’s a smile, an agreement to meet up with friends,
but secretly going to see one person.

It’s a feeling that something great
is on the verge of coming to life,
a confidence that you’re making the right choice.

It’s the majority of your time recalling your last conversations,
replaying better things you could have said,
second-guessing the intentions behind her responses.

It’s a walk to the lake,
barely wearing summer clothes,
noticing the intricacies of exposed skin,
swimming in the setting sun’s light.

It’s a kiss on the hillside,
a desire to give magic to this moment, together,
that it might transcend all we have ever felt alone.

It’s a promise, a shared home, a second pillow on her bed,
the hidden rituals of her privacy, simply witnessing her living.

It’s a ring around a dream,
to see within to the child that grew
into the person as you know her,
it’s the child you were, wanting to be known by her.

It’s the ceremony, the dance,
the night we we were supposed to feel different,
the intertwining of families, hopes, futures.

It’s the beginning of real things,
homes and yards,
rooms envisioned with intention,
a purity sanctified in wishes,
still new, still waiting to be known.

It’s a heavy winter storm shutting down the town,
snowed in at the house, together,
husband and wife with the intent to conceive.

Its children, it’s changes, it’s growing together
through all the unexpected parts of what we thought we would do.

It’s the pain, the hurt that cause us to recoil, pull away,
yet keeps us believing, keeps us willning to try again.

It’s the shared time,
the meaning assigned to the chapters of our lives,
it’s how I celebrate you.

Deflation

the landlords bombed so much
that oil should be free
pinching continents
so tight they turn to USD

bribing our kids
with mcdonalds and caffeine
to keep shivering fingers
tapping on the screen

cut you off from your doctors
‘you should get used to the pain’
dying from their fentanyl
cause you can’t even afford cocaine

rent went up this month
but it’s 10 bucks for some jeans
if you don’t work hard enough
you’re replaced by a machine

spit the gasoline to the sky
until the sun sublimates the tar
while they pinch our pennies so tight
they collapse into a star

Sex on the Beach (Poem #16)

The implications of an explicit
Exploitation of the human geography
Is the essence of true analogy of how
We run free in the open space
Of life in the bountiful land
Of nature

A glimpse of the sea of love is overwhelming to the heart of men
The sensuality of femininity
Masculinity is the drapes of love
That covers the nature of an act
So cool and smooth
One that smodders without bruise or pain

Archive the sea and the beaches
A serendipitous arena where
We frolic in the sun
The sand tells the Stor of the many
Adventures it has seen
What a rave and daze
Romance in the sun , sand and sea.

Poem 4, Prompt 16

In the cradle of Morpheus he draws breath like a piglet
Snorts dainty as frost and innocent as bud
Within his cocoon he transforms in endless cycle
Now a lycanthrope with throat-noise akin to beast

Zeal-juice trickles down the cheek of the shapeshifter
From his place of peace and longing for a sip
He rumbles the night away in oblivious rapture
And I caress his soul with my everlasting heart-hand

Aerophobia

Earthbound wish to fly is a tale I tell myself
In truth, Pan-ic is the name of the demon
hiding in my aerophobia lobe

Whispering dark thoughts:
Too much traffic, you’ll miss your flight
A storm is brewing, the plane could crash
You’ll be profiled and strip searched by a creepy smelly TSA agent
You’ll be seated next to a crying baby on one side
and a snoring slobbering neanderthal on the other
Your luggage will get lost
Your passport will be stolen and you’ll be deported
You’ll get an ear infection
You’ll catch COVID19
There could be snakes on a plane

An exorcism is in order

Intimately fond

She comes to me more
in memories than dreams
there, not there
still there

To know she is not lost
loses its sting when
I remember that I am
also not lost to her

What is not lost
cannot need to be found
why we are both
… and neither..?

still there always
she pops into
memories more often
than dreams
less frequently when
she shouldn’t
show up at all

When all is said and done
a romance that was ours
can be framed at its
core, Shakespearean best
‘Neither a borrower
nor a lender be’

At least we can honestly say
‘no royalty was harmed
in the making of
this affair’

Yesterday

Yesterday ended within the precinct of unfulfilled dreams
It died without accomplishing the dawn of a new season…
Yesterday, now dead lingers still

Yesterday was rammed into the lagoon…aborted vision, perforated mission
Yesterday never took flight
You have today to amend yesterday’s failure…

Yesterday’s procrastinated dream never embraced the redemptive light of day…
While yesterday is gone forever with unclaimed dividends
You have today to recover lost treasures

Your day is what you make of it…

Redeem lost time with your art

Reinvent the script with reinforced passion for a better today!

Your day starts now!
