Oasis
In this fierce desert
I seek the green oasis
blooming in your eyes.

24 Poems ~ 24 Hours
I could not hear what they heard,
nor could I see what they saw.
How I longed to understand what made their feet tap and their faces smile.
I felt like an outsider for the first time.
I am not deaf, I can see, yet hardly what I’d came for.
Here I stood on the sidewalk outside the pub,
my ID securely at home in the jacket I wore last night.
once upon a time
in the land that we know
the world slowed down its spinning
instead of a day
to completely revolve
a month was needed to rotate from end to beginning
the dark of the night
now lasted two weeks
without a new sunrise or sunset
but stargazing time
was most popular now
with constellations you couldn’t forget
new quick growing seeds
somehow developed
that could grow with just two weeks of light
bedtimes for the children
just got too confusing
but we had just one time zone and that sounds just right
I walked with the shadows as the sun kissed the horizon
What we did not know spared us
For the last we would see the light
Held in those moments
No light
Consumed by the dark
Feel the rhythm
Feel the tide
Don’t you know its party time
No don’t waste my time
I wanna be the one you love
How do you feel now
Now do you wanna be the one
Don’t make it hurt
Just make it work
I wanna be the one you love

In the wee hours of morning
I open the door
To a once ever dark room
Filled upto the brim
With years of solitude.
What was it that I was looking for
Amidst the broken frames
And fogged up glasses
Maybe the poetry
That each of them hide
In the shroud of darkness
Just beyond the reach of light.
To never need to eat again or drink or ingest oxygen. No death required, of any kind, to feed any, all life forms.
It was the day consumption died.
Many freaked out, how would they make a living or what would they do with their weekends, if shopping was no longer an option.
This was the day consumers cried.
To give and take is all we know. How do we function if not with that goal in mind? What do we do? Where do we go? How do we live?
Without this all-consuming consumption.
Whether blessing or curse, we’ve yet to determine. Even Mother Earth and Father Time can’t seem to find their bearings. Even it seems…
They were born for consuming.
What is this world, what is our purpose, if consumption actually were to die? Might we die too or live on for other purposes: connection, contemplation, or something better.
I say, “die, consumerism, die.”

Oh, we were bad boys.
Look! Above us!
George Spiggot’s waving from Olympia Spas, oblivious
to Peter’s glowering, and the waves of heat
unintentionally roast nestlings, fry bugs on the sidewalks
before
budding psychopaths with mirrors can do same
for faint betties.
What would you give?
asks the advert,
for an afternoon with your favorite pop star
under the heating planet?
My ice tinkles, then melts
just as
oxen form a line.
There are ways to kill without leaving a mark
Injuries to the heart
Blows to the soul
There is no exact science to this
One never knows how many hits it takes
Sometimes the system is weak but requires multiple strikes
Or the system is strong and yet only one blow will fell it
There is no exact science
There is no list of rules
And no one knows
When the last blow is dealt
But when the person falls
We all feel it
Jonah took the easy route,
running from the world
straight into a sperm whale.
Swallow me whole, take my
body as brine, flesh
shifting, turning into
soda bread. Or chew me
like a gummy worm–
I’m empty and sweet.
I’ll love you like I loved
Goliath who couldn’t see,
led to the slaughter, held
for fear and mocked and hurt and martyred.
Don’t let me die this way,
don’t let them use me or my
soul made of broken glass and
rusted fish hooks. I can only
breathe out mustard gas now.
Let me be remembered for that.
