Poem no. 9 Autumn silver

As the shy poet eases letters, one by one, onto the waiting page
(as one would carefully compose a secret valentine)
so October takes the time to etch her early frosts –
patiently working innumerable silver strands
among the delicate spider webs of autumn.

Whoosh

There’s no greater feeling than that of life traveling through you.

The creaking of the wood,

The stretch of the string.

With my feet firmly planted and my head pointed towards my goal,

in that moment I can feel the very earth moving beneath me.

My ancestors whisper their secrets in my ears, and the scent of life flows through me.

I take a deep breath, trying to savor the sensation of the world’s soul as it fills my entire body.

My fingers uncurl. It’s not a loss of control, but a willing surrender to the elements of nature.

The string, once restrained, snaps to. The souls leave me in a sudden rush of wind.

Whoosh.

Fragrantly

Fragrantly
VCS

Fragrantly
Wafting through the air
Rosemary cuts an acrid trail
For pungent sage on his way with
Parsley on his arm in her feathered finery
And crisp bouquet

Olives pressed
To make sweet oil
That sizzles softly
Around pink salt that came
From the tallest mountains
To my pallet

My mouth fills
In anticipation of the
Mingled essences in the air
I am grateful to each living thing
From the beasts who walked
The plants that grew
The herbs that sprung
The olives that clung
And the salts the flew
From the mountain tops

Fragrantly and Thankfully
You fill the air
And my tummy
Powering my body
For another day of living

Our Love

My love for you is like a stormy sea

Raging, howling, unrelenting

Willing to see it through into eternity

Your love for me is like a placid lake

Quiet, languid, restful

Unhurriedly seeking the route to forever

We clashed

We battled

We wrestled

And we embraced each other’s wholeness

What could be

I felt it!

I am not insensitive

I knew it!

I am not clueless

But I chose to ignore it

Because I did not want to assume

You hinted!

You pursued!

You never said a word

But believed that I did not care

Because you assumed my silence meant no

I waited

You walked out

And now we are both miserable

Because we now know that our love

Shall never be

Butter Pecan

I’ve fallen behind with way too many to go this one will be quick cause my creative juices are running low I need a nap you know what I mean better yet I think I’ll grab some ice cream

Reconciliation

Disappointed

Hurt

I turned away from you

Betrayed

Broken

I ran away from you

You followed me

You begged forgiveness

You promised to love me

You erased all the hurt

You fixed the brokenness

You made me believe in us

And I relented.

Poem 8

Wet and Wild
great waves
just pushing right at you
Never easy
from the gully to the river
from the river to the sea
happy and bouncing
never a dull moment
run come enjoy the fun in the sun
Jamaica is the real deal.

Amusing My Muse

She sits across from me with
tousled brown hair,
calico dress, and
rosy cheeks fair,
painted eyes,
and turned up nose,
no shoes or paint,
upon her toes.
Lace petticoat
helps cover her legs.
Arms stretched out,
a hug she begs.
She must be mute;
She does not hear.
We communicate with telepathy,
my charming muse and me.
Words, unspoken,
come streaming through.
Phrases old and
sentences new;
a thousand things
I feel her say.
Yet unnamed, even to
this day.
Perhaps the time
has arrived for
giving my muse
a proper handle,
Perchance she’ll
know I love her more
than ever I loved
my muse before.
She’s up in years, that
Brings me to tears,
When I think of
the love that made her.
I think I’ll call her…
‘Peggy Jean’.

Jig

Step in step
Skip n jump
Watch me flow
To the flow of you
Smiling away
For the love of you
Flying my soul
To the breath of you
Sunshine pouring down my eyes
Eternity lost you hold me on
Stay with me
Be mine all.
