4. Comfort

My weary heart finds comfort

in words we wrote between

our delicate emotions

witnessing a scene.

My weary heart finds comfort

beneath the open sky

expansive in it’s bounty

reflected in it’s high.

My weary heart finds comfort

revealing mind to pen

releasing all emotions

perspective, once again.

Blow It Away

Put it in a bubble and blow it away
It must go, get on with living
All the hurt
All the pain
It’s not for you anymore

Life has taken so much
But you have more to give
All the roads
All the journeys
It’s time for you to begin

Stand up and shake it loose
Too much is headed your way
All the happiness
All the excitement
Put it in a bubble and blow it away

Hour 4 – That’s why I love you so on…

Your friendship keeps me calm,

In the office, home and farm

Your call is my happy alarm

That’s why I love you so on…

Your love makes me warm

In rainy season and under storm

You are my only lucky charm

That’s why I love you so on…

Your company protects me from harm

In the individual attack or swarm

You lock me while arm in arm

That’s why I love you so on…

The Box

There was once a little box
filled with specially imported chocolates.
Then — wafer, chunk, wedge and sliver —
eaten, and the box sat coated with dust.

Once, too, there was an orange,
the last one of a basketful.
As it aged there alone, it darkened,
as though filled with chocolate.

But of course it wasn’t. Seriously.
It was thrown out. The box, however,
gathered dust on the shelf because
of the wafers and slivers of memory

it contained. This is supposedly
the truth — each word — what
is cherished can be kept neatly
in just a dusty little box.

The Chance of Choice

A change of plans is no accident
if you don’t think of it as such.
A diversion lies in wait,
a chance to recreate what might have been.

If you don’t think of it as such,
what’s meant to be
might actually be a mistake.

A diversion lies in wait,
whenever a choice forces its way
inside the twists and turns of life.

A chance to recreate what might have been
is an opportunity to look anew
at what has yet to be imagined.

Poem 3 – Bruised

Bruised and battered
Surrounded by love
I tried to repair
All that I could

With no clear path
And miles away
It’s easy to feel
You’re a castaway

But this is my purpose
This is my plan
I am more than
Just a madman

I’m here to protect
You are my home
I’m ready to hold on
I can hear the storm.

Kismet/Still Can’t Find Her

8/5/17 9:23
Kismet/Still Can’t Find Her

I’ve been looking for God
In between cities and the webbed space connecting fingers.
I’ve been pacing the bare-bulbed blinding
Never finding faith or redemption,
So that I can drop down to my knees and
Give myself over to something other than my impulses.
Something other than you.

I’ve been looking for God
Behind the soft spaces of your ears.
I’ve searched for years to find a way
To absolve my own indiscretions.
Looking underneath my rib cage hoping
That the bigger the space is
The more likely God’s to be found.

I’ve been looking for God
Inside the notebooks my friends give me;
Desperate attempts to channel my
Frenzied cycling thoughts,
Because there must be a better way to repent
For the time that wasn’t spent
In your good graces.

I’ve been looking for God
For over 24 years
To make sense of the recurring kismet
That draws me to you.
I still can’t find her but I think she lives
In the way you pronounce my name
Like a hymn.

Saturday Dawn

Saturday dawn

he’s calling time,

coffee to brew

my heavy eyelids.

The cat knocks it down

they run through the hall,

it pierces through me

Saturday dawn.

Eggs in the pan

srambled not bad,

why does he cry?

no school today.

Cleaning perhaps;

feeding the cats,

pampers for him

its nothing new.

Odors that faint

litter to change,

running he sreeched

Saturday dawn.

Poem 2 – Yearnings

The distance between us is far and bare
I’ve anchored my feelings, nothing more than a stare
I wish I could break the shackles
I’d take on the fighters and win any battle
I’d listen to what ignites your fires
I’d revive from your love, life and desires
We’d travel across borders and green lands
Before I see the rest you get up and stand.

And as you leave, a quick glance shows you care
No chivalry today my darling,
But I will one day have the courage to profess, I swear.

sonny

your cloudy eyes

your new mind

your cloudy eyes

your broken frame

your confused stare

your new mind

your cloudy eyes

your calm gait
