(xvi) one word

An aeolian enterprise;

perse-tinged zephyr,
the caliginous expanse
of night’s tresses pester;

coruscation in her eyes,
sculpt each venial qafir
to a penitent impasse;

as softness of lips whisper,
plot a subfusc surprise…

Aeolian enterprise….one.

I Was Calling (Hour Sixteen)

I was calling you in my mind, willing you to hear me, beseeching, in your own.

And I may never know if you felt me,

If I entered your mind unbidden, and you fanned me away like errant smoke.

I doubt I’ll ever have the chance to ask,

And more than that I doubt you will remember these little details,

Which, to a mind like mine, are the stuff of life,

And to a mind like yours are dust in the wind.

I was calling you, calling you, and eventually it was me I had to call upon

Because I was the only one who could answer.

I was calling you in my mind, willing you to hear me, beseeching, in your own.

No time

Too many things going on at the same time

Enough time to handle those things that I want

Yet some must be left behind

Some times it’s necessity

Which includes some silly shenanigans

Choosing between two things

Hoping not to regret a thing

Naturally

lichen rings protrude

from musky, forest pines

discs on the backbone

of northwoods life

Carpentry

I long for words as pointed and direct as driven nails.

Bang, bang, bang, each blow directly on the head,

Driving the point home, joining board to board, thought to idea.

There is no glamour or stammer in rough carpentry.

This is not finish carpentry in which we inset the nail heads and carefully hide them with stainable putty.

Bang Bang,the structure takes shape,

walls go up, floors and ceilings take their place.

Defining space is the job of the architect and the framer,

not  decoration, frills, or tricks to fool the eye.

Bang Bang Bang.  I knock together a world,

and make it safe for you to join me in it.

As soon as I clear out the debris.

Sticking to the Guns

I said I wouldn’t write a love poem
especially not one for you
There’s not enough content for one anyway.
Not the first time that I met you
with sweat dripping down your brow
and how you wouldn’t let me help you bring
in your luggage.
And how you said I was your best friend once.
And I made you cupcakes for your birthday
because you were new in town and all alone.
And I loved you even then.
Or how I love to watch you
watch you walk, watch you stand
and even though you hate singing
you have the voice of an oceanic god
and it doesn’t turn me on, not one bit
And I’ve never ONCE imagined what it would be like
to crawl over your lap,
sit in front of your face and kiss you
senseless
Because I’m not in love and this isn’t a love poem.
I never once thought about how I loved your knowledge either
Who cares what you know about birds, or about mushrooms
Who cares that you like your coffee black
or that for some reason having to pull
a U-ee on a narrow rocky road
sends you into a tizzy of panic
That’s not even endearing.
And I never even cared that liked to
stop your car and roll down the windows
just to look at a cute pup
I don’t even like dogs, just like I don’t love you.
Nope, because like I said,
I wouldn’t write a love poem,
especially not one for you

Hour Twelve: Let’s Begin…Again

I have come to the end of this chapter in my life
Excitement fills my soul
An undercurrent of fear grips me
For there is something frightening in change
Even when we know it will transform us for the better
How I accept this next chapter is up to me alone
I can shape my actions any which way I desire
So I keep my head held high
Take my stance
Feet rooted to the ground
Confidently I look ahead
Into a brilliant future filled with twist and turns of wondrous adventures
I welcome change
Lovingly
With open arms

Wonton Word Garbage

Where’s my music, I need it now.

The world is in bad shape, I don’t know how

We’re gonna fix it. I don’t want to worry

But without that music I can’t tell my story.

It fills my soul, makes me feel full

Even though I haven’t eaten for days

Where’s my music, I need it now.
