Before Darkness

There is always someone’s uncle who dies

shortly after retirement.

No aunts, no mothers, no grandmothers.

Like baby disaster stories that

are whispered to pregnant women,

these cautionary tales of uncles

are shared with glee.

What can one do,

but stand up and face fearlessly

the approaching cloud of doom

with ones own illumination.

Hour 2

The day has dawn
Tomorrow is gone
Looking forward
To a brighter and better day

Truth be told
The future is yet unknown
Hope is at its peak
Goals are set in place
Never doubting
Living in amazing grace.

Prompt 3

Before Darkness

Before Darkness
I believed in
The Starship Enterprise
And interstellar wonder.

During Darkness
I believed that
The Starship Enterprise
Should have stayed sunk.

Beyond Darkness
I believe that
The Starship Enterprise
Needs to survive.

The End

The end is near…

The end is clear…

The end is here

It arrived just in time.

It arrived with despair …

Within miles and miles

We could sense the end…

Without a new beginning…

With both of us sinning …

The hatred, so toxic… it got me twisted.

Let bridges burn in this confusion…

Awake from this illusion …

The end is close…

The end isn’t lost …

Let’s search for a new beginning…

Before I lose all hope…

Poem no.3 Before Darkness

When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

It was the possibility of darkness that made the day seem so bright.
Stephen King

You, my song of Innocence,
You, my tale of Experience;
You, first my dawn and then my darkest night.
You, who gave me such luminous vision;
How could I know you were simply reflected light?

(c) Anne McMaster 2016

Faith

Having faith creates miracles
that that one can see, and feel.
Faith keeps one grounded
and fighting for one’s goals.
Faith is the energy that motivates
and all who desire to move forward.
Not everybody believes in faith
until it waves a hand “hello”
at the non-believers,
but having faith is a wonderful
and uplifting experience.

Before Darkness

Before darkness was known…
There was only light!
Yet darkness was shown;
As to illuminate the night.

Before darkness was dark…
It made all creatures blind.
They heard the singing of a lark;
And heard only words of the kind.

Before darkness was named;
It was just the absence of light.
It was not sin, nor shame;
There just was no insight.

Before light was born;
There was just the whole;
The darkness we did not mourn;
We were the light within the soul!

>> Not sure it makes sense, yet, I am enjoying doing two poems an hour. One my own, the other based on the prompt. <<

Before Darkness

(continuation of Poem 1 of Hour 1)

she shudders

the uncertainty moments before

are a welcomed dream

pungent air

singed

sulfuric taste

in her hovel there was hope

the maroon blood rust moonlight

she heaves up the hill

at the apex,

it rains ashes ashes

she looks out

her fallen city a corpse

she is the only one

Before Darkness

Everything was pastel and dull and flat

Overexposed and underdeveloped

There were no stars, no secret midnight kisses

No time on Earth was more boring

Than the time before darkness
