Before a marathon,
I like to stretch…
Out on the couch,
and nap.
While I should prep
and fetch water,
and tape my mental teets
so they don’t chafe,
I dream about it.
Deep breath…
Big yawn…
Waiting for the starting gun.
— Hi all, first time participant here. Excited to be in this energy!
The sky is bleeding today
It’s a comfort to say the least
Less I run out of words to say
The idea that I can change the world
Feels old and retired
Feeble and expired
Coddled up next to dreams
Barely holding on by life support
Beside kin argues whether to pull the plug
And I am forced to choose
Do I stay or do I know?
Do I leave it all behind in my mind?
Refuse and waste
Allowing practicality to govern
The journey of a thousand miles
begins with one step
putting on shoes
putting on socks
getting out of bed
sitting at keyboard
coffee at hand
sans shoes, socks, shirt
Expedia, Trivago cannot get me there
not making reservations
staying the night after the day
more coffee
still no socks, shoes
traveling light
going so very, very far.
Commence.

It is merely an hour and a half to the commencement of the marathon, and I’m just now posting my introduction. So, you know that I procrastinate. In truth, I only found out about this a few days ago. As I have not written anything in roughly four years, I figured this would be an opportune challenge to begin again. I’m eager to compare myself in the wee hours, to the me passed out on the finish line.
It’s been a while since I did something for the pure pleasure of it and only for myself.. I am excited like a little bug waiting to fly the nest to do the marathon and it’s just a couple of hours away.. More power to all of us to want to do this..
Thanks for the platform to showcase some,of the ways I like to join words together 🙂
Greetings! I’m Zephie, and I joined the Poetry Marathon for the first time this year!
I’m a college student – a creative writing major! I’m currently on break, and the Marathon will help me greatly in getting some work done this summer before going back in the fall! Hopefully, with blessings, Susquehanna University’s (my school) Poetry Slam club can do something similar to the Marathon during the year, because it seems like a lot of fun!
To prepare I’m going to have a whole lot of water – hydration is important after all – and make sure to use my extra time to walk around and not get overly distracted by Youtube, video games, etc. Basically, keep the mind active! I’m also making sure to get a good night’s sleep every night in advance to prepare.
I look forward to participating with all of you!
everything is coming out prose lately.
