Hi

I can’t wait for tomorrow! I hope everyone has fun. See you on Facebook

Tomorrow

Hi again everyone. I am not sure how one prepares for these types of marathons as this is my first. I am so pleased to be welcomed by this community. Peace, Diane.

Hello! I’m Nobody! But, if you had to call me, call me Namratha #poetrymarathon #intro

To get things started, here is a poem by Emily Dickenson for you:

I’m Nobody! Who are you?

I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one’s name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!

Hello! I’m Nobody! But, if you had to call me, call me Namratha.

I am from India, and I love poetry. As with most poets, I have spells when the words flow, punctuated by verse-drought. I haven’t been able to sit myself at a desk this past month, and have been scribbling poems on scraps of paper or more often, in whatsapp messages to myself!

I have signed up for the full marathon, hoping to sit and write the distance! I am excited and doubtful, to say the least! I will be publishing all my posts as private, but I believe it will be accessible to all of you who are a part of the marathon.

Anyways, I am giving it a shot 🙂 Good luck y’all! Pop into my comments to say Hello or introduce yourself. Looking forward to writing and reading with you.

Cheers!

Namratha

Introduction

My name is Leslie Simon.  I’ve been writing poetry since I was a young girl.  Whenever I felt deep emotions, I had to write it down in a poem.  It was cathartic for me, as it is for most writers.

It wasn’t until I was 70 that I decided to publish my poems.  My book is Pieces of My Heart.  In it, I tell my journey of going through the heartbreak of depression, healing, recovery and finally reaching a celebration of life.

In addition to writing, I am also an avid quilter.  I was inspired by my poems to sew a quilt for each one to evoke emotions that I expressed.  In the book the quilts are the illustrations for each poem.  The book is quite unique and it’s received very flattering reviews.  I am so proud that my book appeared in The New York Times and most delighted that I had the extreme pleasure to read at MoMA.

I’m joining the 24 hour Marathon to hone my skills and just to have fun being part of this challenge.

Woohoo – its almost time!!

Last year was my first year taking part in the 24 hour Poetry Marathon. I was pleased to be successful in writing 24 poems in 24 hours!!

I’ve been looking forward to this event ! My snacks are ready! Let’s sling some words!

Getting Ready

Getting ready is always a chore.

There are things you want to do,

but where do you begin?

that’s always the question;

the scary place;

the place that hides

in the unconscious and mud soaked regions of your mind.

Getting ready is always nerve racking.

It’s made of

thoughts and dreams

mashed together in a savory stew.

Everything is in there,

but where to begin?

The beginning is the place

that always feels best.

That’s when

you know you’re ready.

Trying again!

I participated in 2022 24-hour marathon. I entered 23 poems. In the last hour , due to technical glitch, I couldn”t upload although I had finished the last poem in time. I did not know that I could have sent by mail. So near, yet so far!

Here I am, trying again! Wish me luck !!
