A Day to Focus

I’m not sure how long I’ve been doing the Half Marathon, but I look forward to it every year. In addition to poetry, I write essays for The Oklahoma Observer and magazine pieces for Okie Charmed, a women’s magazine. I’m good with deadlines. Without them, I struggle to keep the focus on my writing.

I have a garden, chickens, dogs, cats, and a man. I teach Tai Chi two days a week and host a monthly poetry reading. I have a need to keep moving, but The Poetry Marathon is a day to focus, to set everything else aside.

Intro

My name is Jana. I’m 34 years old and live in West Virginia. I’m married with 3 human kids and 8 fur kids. I have been writing poetry for years but didn’t publish anything until 2020. This is my 3rd or 4th year participating in the half marathon.

Hello!

Hi friends! My name is Presley. This is my first time participating in the marathon. I am joining my mother(hi mom!) Amanda who has participated before and Iā€™m looking forward to writing with you all!

Second Year Here

So great to be gearing up for my second Poetry Marathon. I am excited and a little anxious I must admit. Still I am waiting for that first poem that you type with trembling fingers and a heart beating wildly in your chest.

Let’s go poets and make this a great Poetry Marathon.

Hello!

This is my second year of participating and I can’t wait!!! So excited to be here, see you all soon! And yes, I know there’ll be some great poetry to read too!

Hello again!

Hello! My name is Deanna Ngai and I moved to Airdrie, Alberta Canada almost 7 years ago. Before that, I spent my life in South Alabama on the Gulf of Mexico. I am married to a great guy and a mom to two sons (grown) who both have significant others. I am Nanna to 4 kiddos…Calin (13), Kinsley (10), Maelynn (9), and Brycen (8).

I have been writing as long as I can remember, but mostly in a way that was personal. Since finding the Poetry Marathon I have totally enjoyed getting back into writing. I have met so many amazing people from all over the world and I look forward to this every year. This will be my 5th full Marathon and I cannot wait.

Looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones!

We got this!

Deanna

Hello!

“I am beyond words but trapped inside.”

I am Zeenat Shaikh. I am from Pune, India. Writing is my world. I often find myself writing about absurd, complex yet simple ideas that make me enter the endless spirals of my thoughts.

I am trying the Poetry Marathon for the first time, eagerly looking forward to the wonderful experience of creating and reading poems!

Hola from Panama City, Panama

Greetings Fellow Poets! I’m excited to join the Poetry Marathon 2022! Two years ago, I participated in the Half Marathon and this year I’ll be tempting fate with the full marathon. One of my challenges will be staying awake! (I’m 62 years young.) A few things I’ve been doing to get ready –Ā  free-writing for at least 15 minutes twice per day, listening to poetry podcasts daily and reading poems on the Poetry Foundation website. I have a notebook where I jot down words or phrases I’ve heard and images I’ve observed noting possible metaphors. Cheers, Mary
