20 My Prince

There’s a frog in my pocket

By choice he likes it there

Finding the brook too wet

I let him stay without

Revealing he is with me

We shop for groceries and

Wander the local bookstore

He sleeps in the bathroom

Cozy on a golden sea sponge

He rarely croaks but smiles

And won’t tell me his name

Offering the outdoors just

In case he needs to leave

We end up watching old

Grace and Frankie reruns

A sweet happy face he will

Scoot out his sticky tongue

To give me a Goodnight kiss

Stories

Great story begins with faults,

Do you know this ?

With infinity trial,

Even life can be won.

Do you know this ?

You can learn to hide emotions.

Even life can be won,

When you believe in trying.

You can learn to hide emotions,

With infinity trails.

We win when you believe,

Great story begins with faults.

The relish

The relish depends on Jazzy dine,

With the yummy vine.

Vine stored in a hoard,

With a gratify hour.

The relish takes place in a crypt,

In a large estate,

Their dine was Madeira cake,

With a creamy lake.

There were many jest,

And this party was the best.‏

19 Still time on the clock

Leaving the safety

Of entitlement

Even knowing what that is

Getting uncomfortable

To be of some use

Being an insider has never

Felt so out of touch

Finding a tribe that

Teaches how to help

Becoming a challenge

Running out of time

Hoping the young folks

Will use what’s left

On the clock to turn

Us in the right direction

We have left the shore

Drifting in collective stress

Finding it hard to write poems

That don’t frighten and

Overwhelm with sadness

18 Hanging with Grandma

Slowly revealing to

Teen granddaughters

Grandma’s been

Around the block

Secrets are sacred

Advice is expected

Requiring a dose

Of diplomacy

Hinting that I’ve been there

With care not to judge

Knowing when it’s time

To walk out of the room

Tricky path to walk

So many pitfalls

Wanting them safe

While street smart

Keep them listening

While doors remain open

Should they need help

Text this old gal

Prairie Kingsnake (Hour 21)

The transformation bridge,
rippled shadow set low
to grounding curves of a gravel road.

Sleek, earth-smoothed face,
a muddy arrow point,
striped lips that fold around the mouth.

Glistening sunlight refracted
upon each scale,
talking plated armor,

feather sockets,
scraped away to pliable shingles
of ground hardened skin.

Diamond studded rope of light,
Sun-setting night prowler,
river-whipping earth mover,
blood warm hunter of the early evening.

Hour 22 – Whatever Happened to Mr. Hickinbottom?

It is said all they found

was his blue windbreaker

hanging on a tree

a bloody fingernail lodged in its pocket.

They searched for

his axe, his shoes,

drag marks and

tire tracks

and abandoned shacks –

all dead ends.

He had simply disappeared

like morning dew in noon.

His vanishing became a bar story

fodder at camp sites

and night time tales

the story became a legend

legend became a myth

and myth became a fear so potent

that anyone who passed

the woods in the night

swore to have heard screams

and nine fingernails

scratching barks of

the very trees that

seemed to have swallowed

Mr. Hickinbottom.

Resume:Sonnet

Proof that even improbable is feasible
that a poet yet lives in this dried husk.
Inside he who scribbles shitposts, dawn to dusk,
a brain yet from which sonnets are squeezable.
Yet no matter my words, is there an audience pleasable?
Least I pray that a few are appeasable.
So many wring emotions from words, as if on a hunt.
Forgive my candor I don’t mean to sound blunt.
See? Above you’ve seen proof time is freezable.

So allow me a moment or several of humor,
for this world is too dry and painful,
and we should hold close what may cause us to cry,
lest hatred grow in our hearts like a tumor.
Let not too much your heart find disdainful
as we enjoy our moment between the earth and the sky.

17 Flying Flags

Though a country road

Hundreds pass each morning

Off to work, school, errands

Passing a slow pace

By my home with the

Maple out front

My mission as messenger

Is to inform and remind

Humanity that there are others

And to the others

That I am trying

To understand
