Haiku

It is the last hour and I still don’t know how to write a Haiku.

How many syllables go into this again?

Is it a sentence or a prose?

Who the hell knows?

It was a goal loosely formed

For me to learn

How to write a successful haiku

But I have failed miserably.

Guess  gonna try again next year.

Sayonora. I made it through another Half Poetry Marathon

Without actually learning or dare I say writing

A freaking Haiku!

Tomorrow I promise to try a new.

when it rains

the rain comes down in bunches and bursts

the trees are silent witnesses

the pond beyond receives it

gratefully and then swells

in fullness and pride

peacocks arrive

strut their wares

silence

now

poison

death seeps in

poisons the mind

turns all the good memories into painful ones

unites us for a minute

divides us by the year

I see it in your favorite flower

hear it in your name

feel it in my throat

it comes for us all

but it is the death of others that we

feel

#6 Time Passing

Time passing

day by day

flowers bud and blossom

tree leaves flourish

in red, yellow or green.

Nature at its best

being its best.

Views

Out the yawning window

50 shades of roofs

Bluebird houses

Clouds and birdsong

Sherry my neighbor called to

tell me the mail box was open

the mail, wet from last night’s

rain

At 4 a.m. we had hail

the pling pling against the

windows woke the puppy

I was silently chanting

don’t need to go out

don’t need to go out

It worked

I dreamt we were visiting

a few faceless others and

when I returned from another

room my purse that I had placed

on the back of a sofa was

missing

The road to success

The road to success is filled with hardships and difficulties

It trips you up and tests your abilities

It likes to see you give up and stop trying

It likes to see you anxious and crying

It takes joy in seeing you fail

It’s a difficult path that you have to scale

It’s a windy road filled with many bends and twists and stones

It’s a road that you walk on your own

You have to find the strength and power

Work hard at every available hour

You have to stand when you fall

And give it your all

Because the journey is always going to be rough

You’ll have to prove that you can persevere, that you tough

And fight through all the complications   they throw  at you

Because there’s a great reward once you make it through
