How would things be
If
There was no rain?
Parched and cracky and dusty
Pleading for mercy
And all their tears, wasted and dry
Would fill not a babe’s mouth
Not all their shrieks and suffering
All ribs splitting and cracking
And lips cracked and dreams
Cracked and shattered
Would burst open the clouds
Or bless them with mercy, with rain
And all the water flowing and wasting
Smelly and dirtied
Coloured and sullied
With leaves and flowers and corpses
With ash and bleeding starkness
All the waves raging and breaking
Will not grant a gentle wave
Of liquid water.
Thought-provoking imagery and very well-written.
Thank you for your time, patience and inclination in commenting on our poems. It is such a boost of motivation!
Powerful and scary poem- I’ve been through drought but this is so extreme. Horror story worthy! Love it.
Thank you. Though the horror could be influenced by my recent reading of A Tale of Two Cities.
Still I’ve found nature quite sublime and underestimated. It beauty and raw power in inestimable.
Reminds me of what is happening right now in some parts of Madagascar, but in more vivid colors.
I do hope to reach out to people about this delicate beauty of nature and our loathsome treatment of such water.
