Hour 23: Misfortune Strikes

A wasp bit me today

And it hurt like hell

Don’t count your chicken before they hatch

Things might not go as well

And so here I am

With swollen finger struggling to write

But won’t fret, won’t give up

Reach for the finish line with all my might

I Want to Go Home

A home of my own.
It’s time for me
to finally
settle down.

A house, a kitchen…
is that too much to ask?

A place that’s mine
that no one else has.

Can it ever exist?
Can it ever be so?

A home that I own?
At home in my home?

Leftovers

24 Poems: “The Dinner Party”

Leftovers

We all stood in wide circle

The last toast of champagne

The evening went as quickly

As the teasing champagne

I helped with the jackets

And offered Tupperwared portions

And any wine

That was sitting in unconquered portions

I walked out to the driveway

With the satiated company

For the goodbye waves

As they drove away from my company

But there was no loneliness

Just joy

A reflection of thankfulness

The most fulfilling kind of joy

I knew something was forgotten

There always is, I was aware

And I saw a silk scarf

On a now lonesome chair, so unaware

{The Fool}

In the glade there was a pool

Beneath the depths there dwelt a fool

Who sheltered in the waters deep

To languish there as if asleep

But when the light came overhead

The fool emerged as if from dead

To seek the conscious light of day

And be a liberated soul at play

A Wait Game of Cliches

A Wait Game of Cliches

Someone has always told me
“Good things come to those who wait.”
Nearing fifty I’ve been
“always a bridesmaid and never a bride.”
I never chose a wedding cake.
Heard the cries of a newborn,
but never called one my own.
Sometimes destiny is diverted or restricted,
life fulfillments left unanswered.
Sometimes no matter how hard the prayers,
we don’t always receive the wanted answers.

Wet (Prompt 15)

Bronzed goddess savior with a septum ring and easy smile
Island girl comes to the rescue I just met you but it doesn’t matter
My soul already knows my soul knows that it knows yours
Paddle boarding take me to your favorite beach kiss me ocean salty lover sweet
Why didn’t I meet you sooner and why do I have to leave

4th of July straight from Lanikai to catch a flight my swimsuit soaking through my clothes
And your car but you make sure I understand that you don’t care it’s just saltwater
More saltwater comes when we try to say goodbye why am I crying we just met
Why is every part of me wet I just don’t get it

Hair begins to dry crunched curls
Salt streaked cheeks from missing a girl
Before my flight even takes off

4th of July straight from Lanikai, made my flight but cried all the way to my gate
Fireworks going off somewhere couldn’t care less a dripping mess I just feel wet
Missed her mouth all the way home didn’t matter to miss fireworks
She brought more extravagance and light than they ever could have

Conjuring Love’s Misfortune

The conjurer of your misfortunes.
Babe, I’m sorry
For treating your house like a tennis ball,
Using my sides as rackets,
I’m sorry for the spillage,
I should have treated your heart for what it was
An egg,
I know words can’t express
At this point actions either,
Humpty Dumpty was never reconstructed,
So our bond might be gone externally,
But allow me to rebuild the Bifrost that connected our souls,
That made us one,
Whilst i played with an entirely greater sum

Nothing but Sleep

The nothingness took over my consciousness.

I was not standing.

Haze overtook my eyes so I could not see.

I could only see blurs.

Thoughts ran through my mind.

I might be alseep.
