Personal Space (Prompt 11)

Always felt a bit alien, big eyes like those haunting paintings
Wondering if everyone thinks or learns or processes at the same rate
Or if those few in subdued magic and understated presence
Come from the same place as me, born of the same planet

I recognize them when I meet them, a manic yet contained time bomb
Moody and cheerful, bleeding hearts tearful when it comes to goodbyes
Can we go home, does home exist, is it better than this lie
Try to imagine it, what it could be, so often I do try

Light and calm conversations, vacation on the rings of saturn
A cosmic copy of Palm Springs but with looming mountains packed with trees
And we’d eat fruit from low branches sink our teeth into the flesh
Inside them juicy meat that no animals had to die for

We’d speak kindly and be vulnerable and heal and grow each other
Our own personal planet, not taken for granted, we could finally have a mother
That would listen to our needs and happily feed our slender bodies
No one dying of starvation, no children locked in cages

Stages of our moons would reflect stages of our being
When we are fulfilled and strong, and when security feels fleeting
No need to be redundant when we can say it with our eyes
Do you remember that Nirvana nestled somewhere in the skies

Don’t deny it I won’t lie it sounds like heaven or a dream
To remove myself from everything that doesn’t feel like me
You’d be there to teach me, show me the space I never knew
If mother planet does exist tell her I’m looking for her too

No pleasant dreams – hour 19, prompt 19

No pleasant dreams, says I

it seems

a nightmare’s more

of what’s in store

with heaving lungs

and paling tongues

I cannot promise you good rest

your sleep will haunt you

horror’s best

no breath, you fear this most of all

ne’er reaching rail before you fall

deep in inky darkness all

damp and cluttered, closed-in walls

a King I see, his throne is high

adorned with flashy sharpened knives

all it takes is just one cut

and screaming, goes your mangled throat

but he envisions life from death

you come back, jester instead

if laugh, you cannot this king make

your impaled head upon his stake

and startled, then you shake awake

a macabre book beneath your pate.

Hour 18, Prompt 18 – No Holiday

Five travelers grew weak and weary

all their eyes had grown so bleary

through rustling darkness, some did cringe

but each had taken on this challenge

They arrived in clearing in a curious state

their words they’d hewn would seal their fate

the troupe would find with rhyming schemes

Each couplet turned to waking dreams

The images they scrawled turned lucid

to reality they would be there, translucent

One here has writ a bull, set to erupt

while, here, a winged angel’s love

this one faces the mouth of a lion

another yet sends a great eagle flying

They’d stumbled in this world most strange

all had joined this quest to change

H.19 – Community

I pull the net up, heave after heave, l am a small clog in the machine, one of many,  with an empty belly, working for a meal.

We land the fish , the boats full, many hands maning  the oars take us to shore, together, as one.

This machine with many moving  parts, scaling ,fileting , fire starting, cooking, singing, a team, a family,  a community.

JELLYFISH NEVER BUILT A GUILLOTINE – Hour 19

JELLYFISH NEVER BUILT A GUILLOTINE

mutual aid means nobody starves

but jellyfish don’t pay taxes

I’m just saying, as human beings

have we looked into these facts, sis?

I like roads and bridges, dude

I like schools and the post office too

Taxes would be fine for me

If our government cared about communities in need

Instead we pay for endless war

trillion dollar deficits nobody asked for

so before this country hits the skids

stop using our money to bomb brown kids

Prompt 19

Everything living starts small
at some point
you encounter another
and this will repeat
until at some point
you’re wrapped up

Your shape changes
it more embellished
more welcoming
more inclusive
more grouped
more reviewed
more impulsive
more scathed
just more of everyone we
have ever encountered
