JOJ (Just Off the Jet) — Hour 14
I was told 31 years ago:
If Mother Maui
wants you here
she’ll find a way

I was told 31 years ago:
If Mother Maui
wants you here
she’ll find a way
You smoked up your gifts. He thought you were pathetic. You can’t go back now.
Give her what she wants. She says you, ” kiss her hiney… you are convenient.”
Your petulant fits won’t change the way they view you, or hold love from you.
You’re still a broken little girl begging for love. Such a sad, lost soul.

I wake up from my slumber,
wipe the sleep out from my eyes
To paint the page with poetry
to break all negative ties.
To write is a blessing
it means you have a hand
a brain and heart conversing
to make the reader understand.
I don’t pledge to be incredible
There’s endless talent here
I choose it as my therapy
to calm my inner fear.
My page is my doctor
medicine is my pen
Its not about if there’s healing
just a matter of when.
Water pools on the surface
Beads of limpid possibility
Stagnant till dabbed with pigment
Kinetic color stretches its fluid fingers
Reaching into the textured plains of the page
Finding a home in its creases
Infusing a blank landscape with vibrant expression
Just a canvas no longer
Now it is open to interpretation
It may even be art
Drinking in the scenery
Good god I love the greenery
Forest of cornucopia
My fairyland utopia!
The one that stewards land
Is the land that stewards one and all
To try and separate creates the disconnect that leads to chaos
The symbiosis of our biosphere isn’t near, for it is us,
We a part of all the living, not apart from all that’s living
Breathing
Feeling
All connected in our being…
But civilization makes it hard to hear,
Life’s quiet song lost amidst concrete cacophony,
Amidst fossil fuel’s demonic combustion
Amidst plastic wrapped processed foods
Amidst chemically separated muscle tissue…
So near but yet so far removed
Never new and not improved
Quiet, listen…
Small Town Summer Evening
Small town summer evening,
Life on the wraparound porch
Waiting for a cool breeze.
Line of rockers facing the street
Cooking done for the day
Girls finishing up the dishes
Sitting hard with a sigh
Wiping hands on already damp apron
Watching kids circling the barn
Neighbors stop by to chat
Chairs dragged out from the kitchen
Fanning themselves, while telling stories
Watching couples stroll by the river
Listening to the laughter of children
Lone notes from Herman’s saxophone
Dusk is falling over the river
Kids filter back to sit on the steps
Talking about everything and nothing at all.

Unclench fists
Fill them with seeds and soil
Unsquint eyes
Fill them with beauty and truth
Soften heart
Fill it with forgiveness and joy
Unlock throat
Fill it with song and honesty
Untense toes
Fill them with dance and delight
Set free mind
Fill it with curiosity and wonder
Open self
Be full of all life’s potential
Mother Earth
She takes such good care
Of her children
Providing all the nutrients
We could ever ask for
From the juiciest fruits
To the salt in the sea
Her love for us
Knows no end
As long as we
Take care of her
In return
