It’s A Shame (HR 13)

She gets to see the better side of you

The one I never got to see

She gets to be showered with gifts and love

When I was with you all I seen was excuses

Now you want to be a new man

Go figure…

You used to be all about yourself

Now you’re with her and you’re selfless

I’m glad that I could be your teacher

Glad I could be a life lesson

Glad it was all at my expense

I’m the one who dealt with all your bullshit

I’m the one who had tears in my eyes from your lies

You never comforted me

All I was told was I was doing too much

I just think it’s messed up that she will never get to see

How much you messed up when you were with me

I literally gave you all my time because I was blind…

…I was patient

And although I try to remember all the good times…

…all the bad outweighed them

Trust me I could never be bitter

Because like Big Sean said,

“I don’t fuck with you”

Nope not anymore

I had to let you go so I could be my best

And let God determine if you’re going to be her blessing or lesson

I just find it funny that you thought we were still going to be friends

Oh, hell nah

I’m not worried about none of that closure shit

The way you did me will forever be your karma

All I’m saying is that it’s a damn shame I had to go through all that

hour 14 poem

Indecision

What do you do

When all you can see

In a world gone askew

What’s it to you

For you cannot flee

What do you do

But seek your due

You won’t get it for free

In a world gone askew

Do you think you are through

If so to what degree

What do you do

Will it come out of the blue?

You want a guarantee?

In a world gone askew

Like everyone else stand in the queue

Show your esprit

What do you do

In a world gone askew

Prompt #14: Therapy of Roses

Boy meets girl and falls in love,
He gives her roses to express his love for her.
Man proposes to the love of his life
And a wedding is planned, roses in every bouquet.
A child is conceived, and love is shown with flowers
And gifts in preparation for baby.
Valentine’s day, Mother’s Day,
Birthday, Anniversary,
Flowers are given to show love.
When the dreaded happens
And divorce ensues
Tears rain down as grief takes over,
God gives woman a garden.
With every day and week that passes,
She waters and tends to her garden,
Pruning and fertilizing the flowers,
Tending to the gift that God has given her.
As the flowers bloomed, she did as well.
Healing deep and true, courtesy of Father God.

O Brilho

qualquer lugar é lugar de estar,
o planeta vai girar o mesmo.
As pessoas queriam
o que havia dentro delas
e eles nos dizem
que não há suficiente para todas.
Então tira dos ladrões,
e dê para o mundo,
a riqueza que roubaram de nossas almas.

Feral

As a child I would consider
Taking walks around the block at night
I looked out at the sleeping world
and always returned to bed.

Now, I am considering
Taking walks in the woods forever
The reverse wolf-child
Raised by people, living feral
The woods don’t care about grades
They don’t need money or fashion
Social skills a useless commodity
Ambition only to survive

But nature does not require nothing
It demands physical strength
Knowledge on foods and shelter
It may request my willingness to kill.
To snuff out a life
Merely to maintain my own.

And I shake the leaves from my mane,
Smooth it back into a ponytail.
I rinse my paws of dirt
Trim my claws back to neat nails
Straighten my ragged clothes
and crouched limbs
Back to civilized.
Tell nature no thank you.

Return to my world of people
Where medicines assure my wellness
and houses my comfort
Where life can coexist
Just a little easier
and my family is waiting
to welcome home their girl.

The Call Of The Wild – Hour 14

She yelled at me to come
To run to her arms wide open
To spread my wings by her side
To bathe in her sensations
When I was a child
But I was taught to fear her and her dark secrets
What terrors does she hide?
I am too young and weak to be with her
I must wait till I grow strong

I am no child no longer
I have denied her call a thousand times
Now she barely whispers
I am no longer afraid
But I am no longer excited either
I run to her searching for the salvation she promised
But all I hear is the sound of my own helpless voice
Still, she takes me in
Still, the wilderness gives me quiet respite
From the chaos of civilisation
As Robin Wall Kimmerer said,
“The land knows you,
Even when you are lost.”

Spicy Tagine

24 Poems: “The Dinner Party”

Spicy Tagine

All those spices together

What an exotic complexion they create

While the lemon zest and garlic linger

Such a pungent air it creates

The gently browned chicken

Infused with lemons astringency

Melting in their mouths

I admit, I smiled with astringency

The caramelization

And those glorious pan scrapings so sticky

Still paused on the plates

As things began to get sticky

The tagine tower

Rising above the table of plenty

gentle steam rising

Blessing air of plenty

A brief sojourn to Morocco

Embodying the spirit

What does this spiciness announce

But the glass-tapping spirit

Pink Secrets

Pink Secrets

I am dropped off by my mother
to her mother’s to spend the weekend
with Nana. It’s early Friday evening
and I’m already dressed in my lavender
and pink pjs, soon snuggled into Nana’s
oak sleigh bed, cane-seated chair placed
beside me so I don’t roll out overnight.

Morning sunrays drift from kitchen window
through the bedroom door, Nana already up
and starting breakfast. I sat at the table,
jade green linoleum, a pillow beneath me
on the jade dinette chair so I could reach
my bowl of farina and glass of lavender milk.

Nana decorated my cereal with pink jelly bean
eyes and a pat of butter mouth; food coloring
my milk was essential or I wouldn’t drink it.
If I finished all my breakfast, Uncle Jimmy,
who lived in the front rooms of the house,
would give me a half piece of Bazooka gum.
I asked him why the gum wasn’t lavender.

Dressed in pink pants and lavender top, I sat
on Nana’s lap as she read me a magazine
but the meaning slipped by me; I am 4 and
coddled to stay within reach, no running or
jumping, and I realize now that Nana was 71,
not up to racing after me but it didn’t stop her
from spoiling me.

We played grocery store with her canned goods
splayed on the table, my red cash register ringing
up her corn and peas. After a pb&j sandwich
with the crust cut off, the only lunch I’d eat,
Uncle Jimmy would give me the other half
of Bazooka gum and read me the comic.
I laughed when he laughed but we both knew
I didn’t understand. He grumbled again when
I asked him why the gum had to be pink.
My secret kept still.
I hated pink.
