America Will Be
There’s a place
Where all are treated equally,
No one’s disgraced,
And life’s not taken casually.
It’s beyond that far-off mountain.
The road is rough, long, steep
Through recognition and restoration
America doesn’t come cheap.

There’s a place
Where all are treated equally,
No one’s disgraced,
And life’s not taken casually.
It’s beyond that far-off mountain.
The road is rough, long, steep
Through recognition and restoration
America doesn’t come cheap.
What Day Is It?
In the dusky space
between sleep and awake,
I believe it’s Monday.
Begin planning for
quick, weekday breakfast,
doctor’s appointment at nine o’clock,
look forward to Zoom
book club meeting with friends.
As the sun rises higher,
light brings consciousness.
Feet find the floor.
Yesterday, I bought groceries,
we watched that movie about Space
with What’s-His-Name in it.
That was Saturday.
Today is Sunday.
Nothing again today.
Medville
Do you want to go to Medville?
Getting in is complicated.
Not everyone is accepted.
You must apply, be ill
through no fault of your own.
If you have an illness caused
by your lifestyle, you won’t
be approved. If you have a
birth defect, how you have
lived the first years
makes a difference.
What you have done,
what you have tried to do,
can give you an edge
in the application process.
Or hold you back. You
need a reference, too.
If you know someone
who went there, talk
to him or her, but they
are hard to recognize.
They don’t look the same
as before. Medville
will change you.
I’ll live inside a taco shell
Crispy please I like the cheese
I like the smell
I’ll dance each morning in the nude
Chipotle sauce around I’ll toss
I like my food
With Fresh tomatoes in my hair
It may sound slappy but I’ll be happy
When you are there
I sing a song beyond the sea where feathers float on dreams and cactus flowers bloom.
Where lazy afternoon hours sneak glimpses at sunset.
Where time has no meaning for it counts itself in breaths, and clouds of many colors drift just out of reach.
Where laughter fills the morning light reflected off the dew, and nighttime touches dusk, to soothe a weary soul.
I walk among wishes held deep within a sigh.
Where ferns cast lacey shadows upon sparkling rippled lakes, and enchantment rules the dawn.
I sing a song beyond the sea.
My song is heard and answered, carried on an eagle’s cry.
What’s a foot without a shoe?
What good is a me without a you?
How can there be sun with no rain?
To recall the good side of a bad day?
Let’s take a walk inside the sun
Swim to the moon
Just for fun
Revel in the space of we
Make more lovely memories
All about me and you
As Snape snarl at my
Hufflepuff robe
An owl drops in mail
And I witness
The social interaction
Of someone getting a howler
From their mom
Their grades have gone down
What’s more Headless Nick laughs
As I walk by
The great hall illuminates to
Welcomes me

Traveling across the Yolo causeway,
I’ve had cool wind in my hair.
But have never given colitas a care.
I’ve stood in a doorway
And glanced over the bay.
I’ve heard a mission bell
And become drunk off Zinfandel.
I’ve been to a California motel
And heard an echo from a seashell.
It was such a lovely place
With a comforting embrace.
“Latvia”
You always share latvia’s story,
A small country with big history.
A hills surrounds with chilling feels,
A place I wish to see for real.
You promise to take me there one day,
Though I live a million miles away.
I hope to steal a quick visit.
Take me there, even just for few minutes.
Imagining that quick strangers chat,
A walk in a small town, when no one’s around.
Or a feel of chilling wind in my head,
Just like what you have said.
A long ride, as you share few stories,
Of country memories and old songs.
A travel that will not last that long.
Yet a kind of memory that is never wrong.
