Testing…is everybody in?

Is everybody in?
Everybody ready?

I remember years past,
These 2:30 a.m. Friday night Saturday mornings were a breeze

Now I’m setting an alarm to wake up because I go to bed at 10.

Poem 1: “Pappaw’s House”

“Pappaw’s House”  by Mandy Austin Cook

a flashlight

and giggles
rebelliously deliciously tiptoeing
to the porch
with Barbie dolls.
we could have planned anything and the grand scheme
was to PLAY.
drink it in…….
both the up giggling and the “Hush you three!” from down the hallway
knowing in the morning
Fifi will lick your nose (and probably your ear if the nose doesn’t work)
cousin good mornings a  “SHUT UP!”  HE argues he doesn’t SNORE.
(he’s still mad the master plan was Barbies)
and coffee gurgles its aroma with sizzles of bacon slices
and the cheerful whistles
of comforting familiar.

Taking

The tempest rages,
Wind, rain, thunder, boom.

I’m trapped in a cage,
Scratch, claw, cry, doom.

It’s of my own making.

The sunshine is there…

For the taking.

When Day Breaks

“Beep, beep, beep!” my alarm screams. I roll & pat pat pat . . . silence.

“Zzzzzzz . . .zzzzzzz” my husband snores. I rub the crusty sleep out of my eyes as light breaks through the window blinds.

“Bawk, baaawwk, bbbbbaaawwwkkkkk” demands an answer. I stand and slip on well worn Uggs and a frayed BIOLA hoodie.

“Momma, momma” cries from down the hall. It’s time to start the day.

“It doesn’t get any easier, but it’s still fun …”

Good morning to all fellow 2019 Poetry Marathon participants!

Silvester here in North Vancouver, up for my 5th TPM.

Wasn’t really sure I could join you folks this year, so it was a last-minute decision, but here I am, ready to call upon Euterpe once more to aid me in my poetical travails.

Wishing everyone inspiration, energy, and joy as they create and share over the next 12 or 24 hours. Each of us has prepared in our own way but all I just wanna say is, pace yourself, and fresh air always helps!

Cheers!

Hello all,

Hello all,

My name is Vicki.  I am an English/Special Education teacher from New York.  I have three children, two of which are now adults.  My husband and I have been together for 23 years and I love him more than life itself, but we’re going through a really bad time right now and I am hoping that writing will help with that.  This is my first year competing, so I chose only the half marathon.  Good luck to all of you!  Let’s see where this goes…..

Good morning!

Excited to get started this morning! Good luck everyone. I wish you all good poems and plenty of inspiration.

I’m doing the marathon after a long week of work, so *fingers crossed* that I can stay up all night.

A Little About Me

Hey everyone my name is Ashley and I am from Ohio. I’m a working mother who has a passion for writing who has kind of lost my way a bit.

I just recently lost my mother and things have been a bit rough for me these past couple of months. It has been a minute since I’ve actually sat down and wrote anything. With the passing of my mother I have so much on my mind and have been needing a way to let things go.

This is my first time participating in something like this so I’m hoping to finish. I wanted to try this because I need a challenge and I believe this will definitely be one. I’m looking to get myself back writing.

I wish everyone luck!
