The Nature of the Best – HR 4

The nature of the best

auditory and visual

sometimes the formal

is stifling

ties too tight

dresses constricting

down left right

I don’t know

The nature of the best

I don’t know

audits are stifling

too tight around the waist

down left right

follow the chart quarterly

dress for success

The nature of the best

is stifling

practice for tightness

auditory is visual

down left right

notes to know

exercises are constricting

The nature of the best

diminishing, constricting

as the nature of all the rest

down left right

stifling in the ground

self-humor

The morning sun is in my eyes,

why oh why must I go blind?

The window east sounded like a good plan,

but then I could understand,

the morning sun is in my eyes,

and now I can truly realize

that a morning person I am not.

Foolish things I planned out,

in the home I want to build,

the door North sounded grand,

but not in the ways that I had planned!

Foolish things I had planned out,

winds are coming in with snow,

I’m sorry but I’m buried, so I can’t go!

I wanted a home by the sea,

how grand a cottage just for me!

A little stone house near the breeze,

until the storms blew in,

I wanted a home by the sea,

but I never bargained a storm for me!

Help! I’m too close to be swept away, please say a prayer for me!

I think my home is hearth and books,

to keep me company.

To sit and read and drink my tea,

and live in quiet harmony.

I think my home is hearth and books,

for what else do you need?

Papers and tea mugs all I want,

and things that I can read.

Hour Four

Prompt For Hour Four

The prompt for this hour is to write a four stanza poem. The stanzas can be as long or short as you want them to be. In each of the stanzas, you most repeat one of the lines in the first stanza. It can be the same line repeated in each stanza or a different line in each stanza.  This can have a dramatically different effect, depending on the length of the line and the length of the stanza.

By Patricia Harris

Chores to be done,

Weary soul still on the run,

No peace to be found,

No place to lay my head.

Chores to be done,

The list miles long,

Each one something that must be done,

Before I can rest my weary soul.

Weary soul still on the run,

Ignoring all that must be done,

Pretending that I can do it all,

In just one day.

No peace to be found,

In a world of war and strife,

Looking at the way I live,

Questioning how I live my life.

At this hour in time

At this hour in time

Rain is pelleting down

warm tea is welcome

on an autumn night

At this hour in time

Snow behind the window

Light aglow on the tree

Presents in a row

At this hour in time

When the day grows long

Thanks to summer time

Evening lasts forever

At this hour in time

Ice cream dripping down

Clouds building up quick

summer is nearly gone.

Us

Drama drives us forward.

Keeping my head down
I run into everything
Your business ain't mine but
Drama drives us forward along an edge.

I hear the gossip and stories
I even passed on a few of my own
Your business is now my business
Drama drives us forward

To tell our tales, we don't bother
With the burning ears or hearts
We make their business our business
Drama drives us forward.

It's harmless, we excuse
Ignoring the pain we speak into existence
Their business is the only business we have
Drama drives us forward,
Over the edge.

Poem 4

I am not your puppet.
You have no right to tell me how to feel

I am not your puppet.
You have no right to tell me how to live my life

I am not your puppet.
You have no right to choose my friends

I am not your puppet.
Yet I let you treat me like a puppet.

The 23rd Psalm Revisited

The Lord Yeshua is my ever-present guide

Should I take the Interstate highway wide

Or reach Heaven’s gate by backroad way.

I shall not want should I with Him stay

As He prompts my choices as I pray.

He leads me through life’s worst fears—

Deaths, loves lost, and burnt-out careers.

He restores and quells my distraught soul

As through life at 75 miles per hour I roll.

For salvation doesn’t on obedience depend

Since His grace has blotted out all my sins.

His love runs over-flowing throughout my life

While I deal with strum and drang and strife.

New path

The path of new ideas springing out

Pointing new direction count

Sting of new fount reaching out

Caught an instantaneous   recount

Undertaking of new ideas set on

A  path of new ideas springing out

Regaining new insights hype on

Reading the point sight out

Springboard of new delight in

Rudiments living spot on

The path of new ideas springing out

Deluge of new course on

Friends come and go out

New depth reaching the zone

The path of new ideas emerging  out

Enriching life least on the comfort zone

Prompt #3

Smile wide,
shoulders straight,
stand tall,
hands on your hips,
chin high.
gaze low.
Walk like you have everything going for you
right here in this moment,
All eyes on you.

Sit with your legs folded,
nod politely,
speak only when spoken to,
tie your hair into a neat ponytail.
Lather up some foundation,
you have to look perfect,
slap some lipstick on,
put on some high heels.
don’t laugh loudly,
don’t stare.
Wear it like you own it.
this is perfection,
You must look perfect
to be accepted in the circle.

The idea of perfection is tainted.
it’s flawed and has messed us all up.

….except for the girl with
wild hair and baggy denims
dancing in the dark
giving away her heart
barely noticing what the
world around has to say.
Her soul is alight.
