Hot Pink Hair

I know a fairy
With hot pink hair.
Well, it used to be blue.
Once upon a time, it was blonde.
But now it is pink.

This fairy is a dancer.
A ballerina with hot pink hair.
And a singer with hot pink hair.

This fairy is the light of my life,
With hot pink hair.

Today I awoke
I’m glad I woke up again!
I’m on a roll, 69 years so far
There were fluttering waxwings
to greet me
Yesterday there were robins
and crows the day before
I like waking to the birds above my head.

I rolled up my pack
and walked along the floor
of heather and grass
picking black berries for my breakfast
Where should I go today?
Summer is in full bloom, but
autumn comes quickly and
I must travel south with the birds
if I am to survive the winter.

South. I go south.
Tomorrow when I wake
maybe I’ll glimpse the black hills
As long as when I sleep
I sleep free.

Lighthouse Keeper

They show up angry, hungry, afraid
Missing their homes, missing their beds, needing their moms
Some are defensive, some are shy, some tell tall tales
Some even invent dangerous games, and revel in the chaos

Yet you smile, you listen, you comfort
Your touch calms, your voice reassures, your eyes pay attention
The day twists and turns, yet you steer the ship through rough seas
with the expertise of a master mariner

Adventures in science, history, art,
Math, music, language and beyond, are laid at their feet
Golden keys to open locked doors and secret passwords to hidden portals
Unveiled and deciphered

Missing books, broken pencils, empty cabinets
Replenished and filled with portions of your meager paychecks
Those designer shoes and exotic cruises to foreign lands
will have to wait

While you spread magic
Share wisdom
and create bright futures.

It Just Wouldn’t Be the Same

Yeh,  you got a little set aside

We could buy that farm

Raise those chickens

And Rabbits

But it wouldn;t be the same,

Without him.

It was supposed to be a place for him.

You understand.

I’ll keep moving

While I can.

Wanderer

Roaming from place to place

You people, never see my face

I see you in your normal life

While you see me, so full of strife

You see my clothes, rumpled.

As I’ve been in them for days

I haven’t showered,

Walking around in a daze

Feeling so broken inside

This is not what I wanted

From life

Rv’s Are Homes Too

My hubby wanted a house, so I chose an RV.

“It is homey” I argued .

Well no choice now its on the fly.  The ceiling’s low,

and the fridge is small, but we can eat out is all.

Family is where the heart is, and if they want to visit

they always can.

He complained about the room, but I told him we would not be

expecting a throng

I mean how many are going to come?

That day we drove and drove just

where ever the road took us

and arrived at a civilized site,

where they had church without sermons

a shop that sold wood.

I think the thing that finally convinced him

was the scent of the night river.

It was warm and sweet and

then we both could call it home.

sleepless

I had a dream about you

last night

and we were exactly how we should have been before

the cheating

the lies

the ache

the mess

I was told if I was going to cheat, I should carry the burden with me, instead of being honest and making you feel

less than

unwanted

not enough

I should have taken that advice

we might still be the way we were last night

when I met you in my sleep

The Wanderer

The Wanderer

One single gull feather floats

On the face of the sea

I have traveled centuries

Mocking civilizations

Witnessing

Empires crumble

All the while

I float

Alone

But I am free

Freedom on the Sea.
