Better Late Than Never

Waves crescendo into a mighty wisp,

crashing against the rocks.

Seagulls swoop and dive in a fury of anticipation.

But no sound.

Emptiness.

Silent echos

of nothing.

Memories that stop.

Always dreaming, but never dreamt.

Prelude with no finale.

All being,

but never been.

Nepenthe.

No pain.

In a flurry,

a connection ignites,

Memories flood forward.

A tiny hand reaches through.

Mama, don’t let go.

I won’t, Baby Girl.

Never

again.

Hour 18

The Sky is Uncertain of Rain

The sky is uncertain of rain as it pours
On sand, on the canopy, on shores
I cannot speak for all the skies
But I trust mine never lies
He is different than all of his kin
Prudence with inexperience is his sin
He gathers all strength and compassion
I see he needs them in remission
I see his face change countenance
As rain flees, he denies admittance
But there is a dislike within
He warns nature here in
But they understand not how
They are not to love rain now
When all bliss is brought
When refuge is sought
They know not why rain in all glee
Can dismiss the sky’s prudent decree
And through all our tries in his ways
He defies rain, and away he sways
Too perplexed, an evening of rain
I asked my sky why it gives him pain
To witness the heaven pour down
And find frosty wind in his surround
Hesitant, he replies to me
What we all can’t see
Is as much as love rain brings
There is a certain charm of strings
When all go stray and sin relives
All this power that rain gives
He says he denounces this bliss
For it is his humble wish
All order be restored in his reign
And we may lose not our gain
Gone lost and baffled in rebellion
That rain might bring on its stallion
I assure him of our virtue
Nature understands it’s due
We are not to be lost to a little freedom
Rain might only be an escape from boredom
We remained in battle gentle for some time
One blames rain, one sings it’s rhyme
But however at length I knew not
What I eventually thought
Is rain truly a sinful betrayal
Or the truth of love’s avowal?
I let go of this hefty fight
And returned myself to the sight
Of the deluge of rain that renders
As Nature playfully surrenders
And as the sky though unfelt in his views
Remains compassionate enough to the dew

Jay’s Fried Chicken

My favorite meal, also my favorite type of woman
I may prefer two large breasts, but that alone is not enough
I need some passionate, spicy, liquid love to excite me
And on one side I like the boundary shells and cheesiness
And on the other side I want a softness after mashing
Along with some darkness drizzled on, finishing perfection
And to wash it down, water, as pure and healthy as can be

Gold

not everything that shines is gold

we tend to get distracted,

 by bulky packages and shiny things

because we think it makes us happy

there is a price

which others pay

for our bulky, shiny things;

with their life

they sacrifice

for our finery

hour 11 poem

telling me
the Time to go out for a walk
ordering me about to play
i learn to play with a ball
telling me the time
without knowing it
to get up early
in the morning
letting me know
he loves me without words
telling me he is hungry
only with His eyea
letting me know
whom he likes and Who likes me…
always knowing
the place of my old slippers
and of His leash

Love Conquers None

Love doesn’t conquer all;

No amount of love is sufficient to donkey-punch Death and keep our loved ones with us and immune from the effects of aging and disease;

Even short of that, relationships where one or both of the parties thought they were in love end every day;

But we want to believe in the cliche;

We want to believe because it fits with everything we’ve been told about love and how it’s this magical force that will somehow make us whole;

What they don’t tell us about is fear;

Fear is the force to watch;

Fear can twist those we love the most into our worst adversaries;

Fear is what upends our placid arrangements;

We can’t stop fear any more than we can block an earthquake

All we can do instead;

Is;

Rebuild once it has passed.

birds of a feather

birds of a feather flock together
at least that is what they say
and so it is today –
all the writers with their paper and pens
IPADS and laptops or any other electronic devices
they choose to use –
they stretch out on chaise lounge chairs, sofas, beds
trying to write that perfect verse
but what emerges is a string of words
that tomorrow will make them doubt their writing skills.
Twenty four hours to be inspired, to hold onto expectations and anxiety;
to feel sleep deprived and hunger
to eat at ungodly hours just to make it through-
but all the birds who flock together
who struggle to rise above
they all will flap their wings
until they realize that there is strength in numbers
it is then they will learn that together they can soar.

Time Flys When You’re Having Fun

Time flys:  Reading Facebook posts, waiting for the next prompt
Time flys: I can’t retain my thoughts long enough to get them on the page.
Time flys: John asks “You wanna go to bed or what?” I fantasize about saying yes to both.
Time flys: The bars are closed now.
Time flys: It confuses me to see posts about going to church in the morning but it’s the middle of the night.
Time flys: I love writing.

Nice proverbs

Be nice to your parents,

one day they’ll be gone forever.

Be nice to your siblings,

they’re the ones most likely

to stick with you

through thick and thin.

It’s nice to be important,

but it’s more important to be nice.

Be nice to people on the way up the ladder,

they’re the ones you’ll need the most

on your way down.

Have a nice day!
