Jan Rog // Half-Day Poetry Marathon #4 , Here We Go!

Good Morning, Everyone,

I’m Jan from Kansas City, MO.  Thanks to the remarkable leaders, editors, and poets who bring such wonderful energy to these events! Along with you, I’ll begin soon. Since our last marathon, I’ve become involved with a community-based Storytellers for Change, written poems and vignettes, walked daily in neighborhood “caminos” which began in 2020, read at my mother’s retirement home, cried and screamed into pillows as school changes made for even more pivots, let go of so many expectations because peace of mind is preferable to control that leads to craziness, hugged many more friends I hadn’t seen for a long time, and tried to sleep well each night. My husband, Steve, has been through all of these adventures and misadventures — verses and reverses — along with me. In fact, he is lending support to my poetry writing today: planning lunch, making me tea, and cheering me on.  True, I struggle as I continue to heal from a ruptured brain aneurysm, but I am the luckiest woman I know.

Let the Poems Begin!

Unwaiting (testing the waters)

It is with joy I have waited for the breaking of the day. The day this day will stroll in and stroke my soul.

It is with joy I have waited for the breaking of the day. The day this day will walk in and stoke my fire.

It is with joy I have waited for the breaking of the day. The day this day will saunter in and wake my palate.

It is with joy I have waited for the breaking of the day. The day this day will tiptoe in and cake my flour.

I am unwaiting.

Introduction

Hello everyone. I am Arvinder Kaur from Chandigarh India. A former Professor of English Literature and Media Studies I developed a passion for the Japanese short forms while still in service. I started writing in my native language first as I felt that I owe a debt to my mother tongue. Gradually I moved to writing in English the second language that is close to my heart. I have published a few books in all these years.

I love the jacaranda blossoms and find the sunsets very evocative. I heard about the marathon from my friend Shloka Shankar. So happy to be here. Looking forward to the marathon.

It’s Almost time!

Who is just as excited as me? It’s almost time for the poetry marathon. My name is Kristyna. I am a teacher and small business owner. This is my third year doing the poetry marathon. The last two years I did the marathon I had a vendor event on Sunday and I was up all night and head to go to an event on Sunday. This year is not the case, I will get to get some sleep after the marathon is over. I’ve been waiting for the marathon as it is starting later this year than it did last year. I plan on challenging myself this year with writing different types of poems and possibly sticking to a theme. Good luck to everyone and happy reading.

Welcome Everyone!!! It Is Almost Time

Hi Everyone!!! I am excited to be involved in the Poetry Half Marathon again this year!!! Good luck and well wishes to all those participating. Remember to stay hydrated and nibble when you need to!! You can’t focus if you are famished!!! Just a reminder to people to flag (click the corresponding box) their poetry as half or full marathon. I am putting this welcome into the Miscellaneous category in hopes that people see it. GOOD LUCK everyone!!!

Hello

Honestly, this is my fourth marathon, and I’ve still managed to forget how to do this.

Please could someone who has two minutes say if I’m doing this right?

“The colorful balloons of joy”

High above the sky balloons fly,

Through wings of freedom,

I want relief from boredom.

Filling my life with vibrant pastels,

Making me ecstatic and humble.

Ideal for decoration,

The birthday bash is an exciting day of celebration.

Enjoy & sing along,

Hassle-free lifelong.

Remembering the phase of childhood,

Has anyone read Riding Hood?

Like icing on the cake,

Beware of fake people.

Surprises as high spirits,

Open up DIY kits.

A blast of shining sparkles,

Magic awaits,

A  little bit confused, but shape your fate.

Good Morning

I am awake, having a cup of coffee, and looking forward to starting today’s marathon. I did my first marathon in 2019 and am happy to say I have not missed one since. I just had my first book of poetry, Hello, Old Age, published. I credit the Poetry Marathon with providing the foundation for most of the poems that were included in the book.
