about me

Hello, fellow poets. I am so happy to be here again. I am a veteran marathoner; I believe this is my 8th year or so and look forward to this all year. I teach leadership at the university and work full-time as a volunteer recruiter for the American Red Cross. I live between the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains in western Arkansas. May we all have a fruitful journey, dexta

So excited to be participating for the first time!

Hello, fellow poetry marathoners! So excited to be joining this illustrious group for the first time. I gather I’m supposed to introduce myself here.

I don’t write poetry often, but I’m looking forward to this challenge. Typically, I seem drawn to create poetry during times of distress. It’s always a therapeutic and revealing process for me, uncovering secrets I didn’t know I harboured. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow uncovers for me as I excavate my wounds – both old and new (and hopefully explore some happier themes along the way).

I’m the founder of Women On Purpose; founder of Watson Labour Lawyers (now Watson Palmer Labour Law) – a social justice firm; President of Muskoka Authors Association; mother of three (the eldest of whom is writing with me in this marathon! Woo hoo!

Fortification

I’m looking at a half-consumed container of hummus, wondering, Do I have more of this? Should I get more of this? Is this a two-seven-ounce-hummus weekend? Possibly. Still, I don’t see myself putting my shoes back on and going back out in the world tonight for my hummus fix. On my pantry shelf are multiple cans of chickpeas. Right under that shelf is the food processor. I bought the jars with the idea of making hummus. At home. And maybe going full-on super-Bear. Make the falafel and rice, too. Don’t get me going down the rabbit hole for tzatziki recipes! Make Uncle Jimmy want to invest in me and have to regretfully turn him down – “no, I can’t take your money. I’m just making this for the poetry marathon weekend…”

Yet the cans are untouched sit while I’m paying others to create my hummus experience for me.

The marathon always entails stocking for what I think I’ll want while giving up sleep for poetry. Seldom, though, do I think of making things while I’m also acquiring things. I was patting myself on the back for finding my favorite ice cream on sale last night, but when do I do likewise for already have more than one can of chickpeas? I was already prepared, but just not taking advantage of my own preparedness. Whether I make the hummus tonight, I don’t know, but I hope, at the Sat/Sun 2 a.m. mark, I remember fortification, of the stomach and of the soul, is closer at reach.

My Fifth Poetry Marathon

Hello Marathoners! I am looking forward to writing in the half poetry marathon for the fifth time tomorrow. I participated in 2017, 2020, 2021, and 2022 and have written from California, Hawaii, and Nebraska. This year, I write from Indiana!

I am a stay at home mother of four kids and I love this opportunity to take a day writing and creating. I’ve written some poems I’m really proud of in these marathons.

Happy Writing!

So nice to be back!

Hi fellow Poetry Marathoners! Siobhan here! I am so thrilled to be joining all of you very special, creative poets for another writing adventure. It has been a busy year setting up my english teaching home office and adding a new addition to our little family, a beautiful calico kitty named Willow. I have made sure to stock up on some healthy snacks for our writing day and will pace myself, stopping for stretching throughout the day. I wish you all a most peace filled and fulfilling marathon. Happy Writing!!😁💖

Just 12 hours to go

This year I feel more unprepared than ever before. And it’s been a hard week, so I’m exhausted. Not sure how this is going to go.

Last Go Round

Hello,

I’m Jarrod.

I’ve participated in the previous two.

The challenge, of course, is fun.

It is also nice to be forced to write and submit continually.

There’s no time to get lost in self-doubt, endless comparison, or editing hell.

That comes after the marathon (though hopefully a little less).

For the last time, see you on the other side.

September 2nd!

It’s currently after Midnight- September 2nd is here!

For my time zone, the marathon starts at 4 PM! I CAN’T WAIT!

I already know I’ll be eating a peanut butter sandwich as one of my snacks 😂
