Decades of Decay (Hour 18, A Four Square Poem)

Decades of Decay

Beaten

Bloodied

Blackened

Broken

Rage

Unchecked

Hatred

Unspoken

Together

Trashed

Rancid

Rotten

Forever

Lost

Future

Forgotten

****A four square poem has four stanzas of four lines each, where each line is only a single word.****

A Second Breakfast (Hour 20)

My doctor is a bore

Frets like a mother hen

The fuss?

My weight

Who will deny me those late night raids in the kitchen

while the house slept?

those tippy-toe moments as I hear a door swing-

pause

silence

Oh, dad, I just came for water. Feeling thirsty

Lights out.

Wait

The snoring of a boar

My door opens again and on tippy toes I go,

back to my love waiting for me

in the kitchen

in the fridge

in the orange bowl that mom put the caramel-coated sponge cake

Crunch crunch. Mission accomplished.

Hours later.

Morning

Has my sin been discovered?

The whole family is gathered around for breakfast

and there’s none for me.

Where’s my breakfast, mom?

And like a well-rehearsed song, they echo back at me:

“You can’t have a second breakfast!”

21 What tomorrow brings

21     What tomorrow brings

Red sky at night sailor’s delight

Red sky in morning sailor’s warning

A week of warnings as this Sunday morning

Brings a red dawn to take heed

A brief respite from the calamity

Of our world that divides and frightens

I am not ready for another Monday

Bringing doom and fears for many

Feeling safe as I age in a northern

Paradise of green and liberals

Far from the too much and too little

I watch remotely as others suffer

They say to vote and send money

But there is little change for most

Take to the streets and warn the

Masses who turn and shop for comfort

The sky now fades with relief

I will slow my breathing and

Sink back down for one last moment

Before tomorrow harkens more trouble

beyond the blue

way over yonder

past my eyes being closed

oceans of paisley reminders

silky and so soft

wide open spaces

full of the lies

the truth

just

hurts

sometimes

22~21

eyes shaped like almonds

she wished they were bigger

and round like her sister’s

both brown eyed girls

just like their mother’s

who wished hers were darker

like when she was younger

all seen through the eyes

of the next generation

with nothing but love

now isn’t that amazing?

Blooms day

As soon as the rain started
Umbrella flowers unfold
Some flowers change their colors
covering the faces of humans
plays to the tune of rain
black tulips blooms

Shimmer

Dangle a nebula around my neck.
I will carry her.
I will carry you if you’ll let me.

Take this white dwarf. No, take it.
A gift. It’s okay to say yes.
Lean on my rings. You are safe.

Comet of the last decade
will evaporate into sand.
I am unharmed. You, she,
Unharmed.

I am not done breathing.

I cannot pull you out,
but I will try. Add the weight
of implosion to my side
of the tether.

Crash into me. I can take it.

Hour 21

Schools are out for break,

Highly anticipated,

Children are anxious,

The school staff is excited,

Tag, you’re it, it’s your turn now,
