2022 Poetry Marathon, Hour 11
Hour eleven poem, based on the image prompt:
24 Poems ~ 24 Hours
You put joy in my soul
It bubbles up until it overflows
It flows out in light waves of air
You’re sunshine bringing in the light
Only you make everything feel right
The warmth from within is an eternal happiness
The joy bubbles up within until it overflows
Pours out of me and I watch it go
Text Prompt
“Personify an animal. Switch its trait. Example: a disinterested lion, a polite gorilla, an aggressive giraffe…” – Contributed by John Dutton
Said the turtle to the snail
“Race you to that flower”.
I’m too fast to race you dude.
Let’s climb up that tower.
Said the gray mouse to the snail.
“Can I wear your dress?”
“If I canI I’ll give it up.
May I wear your vest”
Said the bumble bee to her.
Want to take a ride?
I’d love to take a ride with you?
I’ll flatten out and glide.
Said the snail to all her friends,
We need to have some gall.
When we share our nobleness.
We can do it all.

early morning commotion in the local park. a group of seniors gathered together were creating a ruckus. a few joggers and walkers stopped to watch their one antic. all were doing the same action, standing with feet apart and raising their forelimbs gently, stretching their body backward ever so slightly. these action was accompanied by raucous sounds emanating from their mouths. the energy of this noise turned the disbelieving crowd of onlookers into believers.
a simple act
bodies working on bodies
the grass murmurs assent
Clock face 🕖 on my wall
Ticks away the time today
As we two face off
It seems aware of my stare
Perhaps it is self-aware
It seems you left me here on my own
With everyday carrying me further away
You have turned on roads unknown
And lost me somewhere along the way
Direction has no purpose
If you are not why I do what I do
Barely seeing the surface
Of what might have been of me and you
Life is a shadow
Without someone there to fill the void
With you there I would know
Yours is the shadow beside mine in this world
Every kind of past imagined
We have seen between us
If it is us when this path reaches end
Then we shall have lived life with purpose
Yet until you are with me to stay
Nothing shall be fulfilled
Waiting patiently for that day
Because I am in love with you still
A slight smirk crossed his face You could tell what was to happen next The words in the room made tears come to our eyes Hands were slapping thighs We all had this silly high That mischievous grin Made us all sin A slight smirk crossed his face I am coming back to this place
It’s a special feeling we share
something unexplainable
that sets us off
at the most random times
The joke has been washed away
it doesn’t matter about the punchline
all we know,
is that our tummies are hurting
It’s uncontrollable
we are getting weird glances from outsiders
what’s so funny?
Well, that’s our little secret
It wouldn’t be as funny if we told you
you wouldn’t get it
the joke is for us
don’t you get it?
Just like beauty
it’s in the eye of the beholder
funny to some, not to others
but boy, we love this one.
It’ll be our thing
to reminisce about
that time we couldn’t contain ourselves
oh, what a sight.
