Sheep-Shifting

Once there was a lordly sheep, a ram “I am”,

not following the herd but breaking new ground.

Challenging the sheep dog while seeking new pastures,

preferring the rapids instead of still waters.

Never was he a sacrificial lamb–not he.

Nor was he like Mary’s lamb–meek and lowly.

Orwellian and all so very contrarian,

a mad Frankenstein mis-cloned his pedigree.

Change Better

It doesn’t take much

to feel the sting of the world now.

Too much trauma, violence, sadness,

and personal drama

play out everyday.

Gone are the wholesome

“Beaver”-esque ways of life

because everything has changed.

And change isn’t always bad,

but it is what we make it to be.

Starting with us,

we must lead the charge

to give change the best chance

to be better.

A Cat– Prompt #10 List poem

A Cat

A cat will not bite

A cat will not scratch

A cat will play fetch

A cat will look up to you

A cat will chase cars

A cat will chase the mailman

A cat will run after cars

A cat will beg for food

A cat will protect you

A cat will not hide

A cat is man’s best friend

Hour 10 Writing Prompt – Nothing is speaking to me….yikes so there’s this (another haiku)

Blocked, stuck, out of focus

Words gone somewhere, can’t find them

What’s a girl to do!!

Creative juices

Where are you, when I need you

Maybe I’m “hangry!”

Not even half way

Poetry Marathon 3

3 for me, that is.

Second wind, maybe

Gibberish I guess for now

Come on second wind

Words, words, words, words, words

Picture prompts, text prompts too

Gonna stretch my legs

How High? (Hour 10)

Tell, how high can you soar standing so lofty and haughty

above the mulberries and dwarf plants?

Though your leaves strain against the skies,

And receive the first showers of rain,

Yet they bow before my ever-searching lips.

Tempestuous flies test my temper even as my tail eagerly chastises them

My strong hind legs dare hungry cats, stomp the earth-. a warning to the wise

before bones break and warriors weary from battle

limp away in shame.

I rise above all,  ruminate over the fresh, fleshy leaves of the wild.

Why Did You Mow?

Why did you mow

when I had everything just right?

Now the weeds will grow

in perfect delight.

The flowers will faint

and lose their glow.

There just ain’t

any reason to mow.

The Warrior

A warrior shaped by the jagged edge of time
Weathered by so many seasons of surviving
Fighting battle after battle only to find
He has survived today still breathing

Cold winter months capture his breath at its realease
Exhaling as he climbs the mountain side
His mountain, for here is his home among the trees
Arms of rock and hands of steel with steps of pride

He moves effortlessly through the forest
With every stride hurrying him onward
Legs of endurance put to the test
Passing by with the feet of a leapord

The snow is whiter that any could imagine
An image of a man is seen in the distance
He moves with the stripes of a tiger
His will as the heart of a bear

With the pride of a lion
He moves as the shadow of a panther
With the strength of many men
He closes in to tend to matters

Flying Chicken

Yes, see its in the air

Like a jet

Hanging without flair

Moving but still there

Its face is out of sight

Tired claws it has hidden

This vertical tarmac not needing

Closed wings, this is its destination

Greasy gas dropping

As if with the wind it was fighting

Surely its time bend has come

With what it has long waited for

To do what eagles do

Some puppets do too

But the day the chicken flew

Never saw it again

But good our ports are filled

With cargos it dropped for us

Poem 10

Apex Predator

Once, I’ve seen an optimistic monkey got eaten by a cynical crocodile
A self-conscious caterpillar turned into a self-assured butterfly
And a denial bee believed that it could actually fly

Everything is uncertain in this deceptive jungle
But be careful with an animal who evolved to tell a lie

Once, I heard about the story of a gullible lion
And an illusive wolf dressed as a grandmother dying
The giant ears of a gentle elephant were used for flying

But in this mystifying forest
Only one animal mastered the art of lying
