My Lover, As Coffee

My Lover, As Coffee

Espresso eyes:

caffeinated and

intensely rich.

No creamer

for this java.

I drink it bitter,

straight, from

a dirty shot glass.

Daylight awaits us,

a set of fangs

at the end of

sleep’s tunnel–

but at least I am

wide awake,

ready for another

cup of you.

The Collector

he watched over them

his collection of robin eggs

blue and gray

sometimes speckled

a dozen eggs filled his heart

he didn’t know if they were fertilized

but it’s not like he cared about all that

every morning he counted the eggs

one, two, three

ten, eleven –

this morning one was missing

his perfect collection ruined by a single chick

he smashed the other eleven

and tossed the chick outside

he watched over their remains

he hated that they were fertilized

Poem 8 Hour 8 Awaken

My brain is squishy.

Words aren’t coming to me.

I’ve lost my talent.

I feel abandoned and the empty feeling only grows.

Where are you, my muse?

I call out again and again until my voice is hoarse.

Come home and awaken my soul.

Hour Six – To The One Who Got Away

I saw you the other day
You looked happy with your friends
But I know you better than they do
I know you better than anyone else does
You know that
Your smile didn’t spread past your mouth
It didn’t light up your eyes
Every time I try to message you
They all go ignored
I go ignored
I know now that all I had to do was stay
But how do you stay when you need to find yourself
And how do you find yourself in such a small town
I couldn’t stay, and you knew that
But I also realize now that you couldn’t leave
Does that mean we cannot be together
Or does that mean that we have to fight for us
What is even the point of life without love

Hour 8: Losing Memories

A memory flutters
Sometimes
When I have forgotten
It goes, buzzes around
Till I try to catch it
Till I try to grasp it
In my hands
In my scarred, trembling hands
Only for it to vanish
Just leaving a whisper of laugh behind.

The Passing of Time

Time is passing

can you feel how quickly it moves?

It’s going by so fast

it’s like a whirlwind that never stops

the days are almost running into one another like a train wreck ready to happen.

Time has no favorites

it doesn’t care if you are ready

it makes no exceptions to any rule

time is just time regardless of your name. or social standing

whether you are rich or poor time won’t make an exception.

Time is not a color

Time is not a race

time knows how to abide in just the right place

it doesn’t belong to any special group of people

time reigns in the realm of eternity.

Day or night, time is just time.

Some people waste time.

Some people disregard time.

some people never have enough time

Time can’t be captured in a bottle

time knows no bounds

it exists to be used and abused by those without a clue.

Time is just time.

Hour 5 Visual Prompt: Reclamation in an Inverted Key

At first it looked abandoned

Perhaps for a long time

The ivy reclaiming its space

Up the eastern wall

Clinging to weathered wood

Vines listening to the echoes

Of pots, arguments and baths

In human residue.

The window is a mirage…

…where the light gets through

Inviting a congress of ivy

Reclaiming and renewing

The ancient rites of reaching

For the light, clinging to a

Weather beaten eastern wall

Words

content warning: intense feeling, some potentially unpleasant metaphor, very stream-of-consciousness

i’ve got words i’ve got words
i’ve got so many words they’re
bursting out of me it’s wildfire it’s fireworks
it’s sparking i am consumed by what’s inside of me
it’s everything it’s all i know i am
words, painted, carved from my skin
my bone my blood – i am words,
and nothing more than that – i am words
i am filled to the brim with words i am overflowing
with words all i have is words and i will
scream them out into the nothing.
at the end of the day i am only a wraith,
a ghoul, a ghost, a temporary placeholder
for what is meant to be – that’s why i’m words,
crumbling, falling down, burning me inside-out
these words cannot express, cannot explain
emotion is a mimicry and i am an excellent mimic,
a parrot, learning my own new words to
create some music, some lyrics, something
that can ground me – save me – damn me –
i use my words like a weapon and a shield,
use my words like violence like biting like pain
and i hold them like a panacea to every little cut
i’ve ever felt and somehow, something,
in all of these words
heals.

Screenshot of Our Times!

Oh what a power that is
when you hold and press
the power and volume buttons on your phone
at the same time!
Voila!
A picture framed
a moment so fleeting
freezes on your screen for eternity
or at least today’s abridged version of eternity
or till you find no more use of that frozen moment
and trash it to create space for another moment
for another abridged eternity
or maybe, just for posterity!

A screenshot of a bad picture of your ex
after a bad break up
Ah! the power that holds
The peace that brings!

Someone is lying to your face,
but you’re armed with a screenshot
and you let them continue just so that
they can dig their graves a little deeper
That’s quite a power!

You need to show off your wordle score
Yeah, it’s the screenshot that comes to the fore!

The cause of a rumour
The cause of distress
Take one of these
when you want to impress
A problem to solve?
No words are needed
Just screenshot the problem
And it’ll be the reason you succeeded!
Shop with a screenshot
Pay with it too
Screenshot some funny memes
For times when you’re blue!
No one’s stingy with screenshots
They all take a dozen a dime
everyone’s armed with the power of screenshots
And that’s the screenshot of our times!
