Sombre (Hour #2)

 “Restrained freedom.”

Am I free?

Or do I just pretend to be?

Am I truly happy?

Or do I act like I already am?

I’ve reached a point where I’m freezing; since young, just’ve been told this one phrase, ‘Life is a race, run or get trampled.’

They make it seem once we gain power and wealth, we’ve made it. “Go to the top,” the whole world seem to say, “It’s too crowded at the bottom.”

Struggle,

Struggle,

Do what you have to.

Be obssessed – you must succeed.

‘It will all be easy at the top, you can then relax…’ Can I though? That peak, I’ve reached it but nobody told me it was lonely at the top. All the energized frenzy is gone and replaced with … nothing.

Empty.

Empty.

I feel empty.

Suddenly I open my eyes and glance at the clock; it’s just 6 o’clock. After petting my rather startled puppy, we snuggle back down again.

“I had another dream again buddy,” I whispered into its ears and it gave a little sniff. “I dreamt of someone with empty eyes and restrained freedom once more.”

I grin when my dog tried to comfort me with a small lick. “At least, I didn’t live like that. I’m glad but feel bad for those that do.”

I still wonder to myself, whose story I saw.

Perhaps, was it yours?

When a Prompt doesn’t spark…

It’s tough, writing something
When a prompt doesn’t speak to you
When nothing seems to spark
What’s a writer supposed to do

I have no experience of hanging from a ledge
Because I don’t have a death wish
And I don’t like using others work
Like Old Man and the Sea, I’ll catch my own fish

So in effect I have to create something completely new
No safety rail of prompts to guide me
I’ll make it up, I’ll bluff it out
And hope no-one calls for an enquiry

I believe its called the Boris Johnson method
Satire!!

Prompt Two: Robert Frost Speaks

ROBERT FROST SPEAKS

Robert Frost speaks to me …

Don’t you see?

He talks of promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

Where I cannot relate,

At least, often in my fate;

Is the woods in the snow,

As I live in a city, ya’ know.

A snowy evening is truly swell,

I mean, if you can tell.

There’s magic there,

Even if I live in somebody’s lair.

Ah, to go for a walk . . .

Or a friend to friend talk.

In the woods somewhere,

Dark, deep and there!

Oh America

Oh America

You wonder, you

The Land of all the Free

(So long as you’re born all of

Straight, cis, white and he)

We pledge allegiance

To the bones

We pledge to all the fallen

We the people pledge

To avenge who you’ve forgotten

For today

We woke up barren

Woke up stripped and beaten backwards

We watched the world we knew before

Be overcome with fractures

You set

A slippery slope in motion

Allow us to strike a match

At this point we can throw

The goddamn country down the hatch

How dare you

Oh my country

Oh my country ‘tis of thee

How dare you take my right to choose

And claim it was for me

The depths

That we have fallen

Have us teetered on the edge

Of civil war, of flames and forks

Of “We will have revenge!”

Hour 2 ( Best of Me)

When I am old and gray
And all is said and done
I can safely say
There was no one else but you
You can sing this song knowing that
I am giving you the best of me
I am giving you the best of me

There is a lot of magic between us
Nothing can break the love
No denying that cause
I am giving you the best of me
I am giving you the best of me

Even when you can’t see
the connection
of the magic between us
something in your heart gives a nudge
So you know that
I am giving you the best of me
I am giving you the best of me
Giving you the best!!!!!

Hour 2 (2022)- Spying a Hawk on My Evening Walk

I amble on my evening walk
By myself, I do not talk
Between the woods and frozen lake
I spy a gallant, soaring hawk.

He is flying so very high
Against the glowing twilight sky
The dying sun begins to fade
As he peers down with watchful eye.

He swoops swiftly toward the ground
His mournful cry the only sound
His talons scooping up a meal
Away he flies, homeward bound.

In this twilight, as my meandering ends
I contemplate, silent thoughts I send
Between the woods and frozen lake
A circle of life as nature intends.

The italicized, bold line taken from the Robert Frost poem: Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening.

(Image Prompt) I climbed

I climbed to the edge of the world today

It seemed as though I had nothing to say

But my mind was filled with thoughts

That my whole life had brought

I climbed to the edge of the world today

It seemed as though I had nothing to say

But inside I was filled to the brim

In my mind the words did swim

Let me out they would say

As I climbed to the edge of the world today

Onyx Heart

The heart was

Onyx

hard and

black with hurt.

A trail of white hope

strove to survive.

A chip, then a small crack

etched it’s way through the black,

wearing away pain.

Disappointment was dusted away

and hope had room to grow.

The crack gathered strength

and blackness was shattered off.

White hope remained.

A new heart began

expanding and contracting,

receiving hope,

giving life.

Once more able to beat.

first watching the waves

until i run in

there go my glasses

…boiling in bubbles…

that I cannot see

my feet find them fast
