The stones have been there
since the beginning
no, not of time
perhaps of our time
of our time in that place
The stones have served
as a marker, as a title
as a force, a reminder
They hold the secrets
of talks overheard
of kisses and misses
they witnessed
of bodies discovered
and those that were lost
I want to know more about these stones. You have captured my imagination with the image and atmosphere. I am thinking either ruins or a graveyard.
It’s actually just a few large stones by a river, not far from where I went to high school. My best friend at the time and I used to go there a lot, it was “our place”, and it does hold a lot of our secrets of the time. It’s seen so much. A lot of which I’d never really breathe to another soul.
This flows very well; there’s a beast rhythm to it. I especially enjoyed the subtle use of rhyme in the final stanza.
Stones of the Earth witness much and as they are ground down, they create the sands of time that carry they memories around the world. I like it!
