My New Normal- Acrostic Poem
With a simple turn of phrase,
we can marginalize anyone today.
Let’s take “normal” and define it here-
in acrostic style and with a little cheer.
Nurturing our neighbours and friends
Ordinary and everyday places and things.
Random acts of kindness is the call-
Mutual admiration and understanding-
Appreciation for all!
Love for everyone both near and far away.
NOTE: These are the ingredients of what should be “normal” today

I wish!
You hit the nail on the head (there’s another idiom for you)…. This is definitely what NORMAL should be.
Thanks Wendie!
This should be religion, but what do I know? Thought provoking.
Thanks Ngozi! I think that I lost my rhyme scheme somewhere along the way…This happens when I begin to think in prose as opposed to poetry…I could write an essay on “normal” or “the new normal”…I don’t like either word…I think they are devastating terms…dividing terms…I think it is stigmatizing… bah to these words!
Bam! Yeah! What we have been preaching this past year on how to behave on the daily is how we always should have been behaving. I love how you brought it along.
Thanks Danielle!
This belongs in our curriculum in schools. So little of this is practiced but it could be the heart of mankind.
Thanks Kim! Without sounding old, I really do think that there should be a course on Caring or maybe even etiquette in the classroom and beyond. I even find that etiquette and addressing of Sir to people from country to country and I even find myself wondering if I should have addressed a first correspondance…or even comment as Sir, or Madam… But, a course on caring…yes…
We certainly lost a lot in today’s society. Your poem speaks to a time I fear has been lost.
Thank you for enjoying hte poem!
I think what I love about this poem is the way that you have taken quite a simplistic form and created a really intricate poem with such a profound and meaningful insight into the way we live societally.
Normal should not be an aspiration, but an actuality. A standard that we live by, not a something we strive toward. We create that sense of normality, by building it into our routines and realities.
I really enjoyed reading this, great poem and wonderful writing.

Thanks for enjoying this poem and thank you for realizing it at its core…”normal” should be an actuality and a humanitarian way of treating one another no matter or status, location, religion, sexuality…none of this matters at our core BUT our humanity to one another…and this should be “normal.”
Everyone has their normal and no one can question it… Be normal…
