Rush

Mismatched socks
Misplaced keys
Misunderstood tears
Even the best laid plans
may go awry
&
Nothing slows the clocks
steady march forward
drawing ever near
the planned departure

Eggs (prompt 9, 5 pm)

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,

An expression heard a time or two.

A good warning for those who walk in two left shoes.

If all your eggs are in one basket,

And you take a fall,

Laugh it off and make a scramble,

The tastiest of them all!

Hidden

Get lost in the air

And learn the ways of the head

Before times,

I’ve seen voices lost and found in boxes

Fingers are crossed in hopes

Footptints are sealed in dust

But a soul get lost in the universe

And finds a way in human

STEP BACK

STEP BACK  (DRACULA)             (hour 8)

How could Jonathan have been so obtuse?

A newby British bank clerk, sure; early 20th century,

yes!  But so naive as to travel to far-fetched Romania?

First by train, then overnight horse-and-four

driven by a man who commanded red-eyed wolves –

all to get some unaging stranger to sign

property deeds in London?  Seriously,

bite me!  Why didn’t he turn back

when natives cursed and/or bestowed

on him garlic wreaths and clunky metal crosses?

Ah, well, you know the rest: boy meets

vampire, suppresses homoerotic longings

all while protecting his chaste finance who

lusts after the Count (she’s been bitten,

of course, trying to uncover the mystery

of  her BFF turned blood-sucking Bloofer Lady).

And you know what follows, step by step:

boy and friends uncover conspiracy

to sap ye old merry homeland of its young

and new blood.  Stake driven through heart,

corpses burned or shot.  Girl and country saved.

Case closed.

Pandemic Normal

Normal can kill

Normal can maim

Normal can eviscerate the very soul

I have often heard the question

“Why can’t you be normal?”

Normal

Normale

The usual

Not outside the agreed upon parameters of what is

Acceptable

When did those two perception become

Synonymous, I wonder

I have seen death within the eyes

Of those who were told no

Because they weren’t normal

Now we are in the midst of a new normal

One that is erasing the very meaning of the word

and replacing it

With what

I wonder

#8. Too Hot to Fly

I learned something new on the radio
about a hot air balloon
Apparently they can not rise on a day
when it’s hotter outside then the room
above it’s flame.

Today in my town
its expected to reach
a high of one hundred and two
My car may still run
but I’m grounded in sun
like a tired deflated balloon.

2021: Hour 9 – image prompt

Emotions swirl,
as my thoughts curl,
around the truth of you.

The night is long,
as my heart’s song,
beckons across this view.

I wish we were building fortresses anew,
and finding solace and reverie in two —

Instead,
I float alone;
lost in sullen waves,

consumed by the
endless
panoramic view.

Getting lost

Get lost may lead to something…

A lesson

A new way

A story

A tell

A message

Or maybe…

To nothing!
