How often I imagine
That cottage of ours
In the heat of the night.
Fireflies dancing near the treeline.
Skipping through the lush wet grass
Under the sparkling moon
In my favorite birthday suit
Towards you…

Strange.
How often I imagine
That cottage of ours
In the heat of the night.
Fireflies dancing near the treeline.
Skipping through the lush wet grass
Under the sparkling moon
In my favorite birthday suit
Towards you…
It rained on one side and on the other the sun shown.
It was like the party itself it looked pretty but tension grew.
Even though it cleared up it was not the same.
When it ended tension did not leave it was just hiding.
It was seen in the ocean, they gave it a name
It didn’t like that… It left.
They forgot about it, it fell to legends and myth.
It didn’t like that either… it came back.
When it returned the world trembled,
for it was longer than anyone previously measured
and nearly invisible above sea level.
Soon people were snatched up by it,
first children and small animals,
then the neighbors, marine biologists.
Then it became angry. We made the thing angry.
It stopped being methodical, it went full stealth,
It killed all the soldiers, the doctors, the farmers.
It destroyed all the roads and fried all the cars.
That horrifying creature from the deep.
Then I went to bed, woke up, it all was well.
There was no sign of that demon from hell.
Until I saw the paper, of this creature from the deep.
Perhaps it was just a dream. Perhaps a vision from my sleep.

Siphonophore Apolemia –
Ocean alien, you call me.
47 meters long, but perhaps longer.
I take space you did not consider.
You believed me to be a lazy thing;
floating; waiting for a catch –
and yet here I am the hunter you did not expect.
Yet you call me Long Stringy Stingy Thingy,
the Thing,
the Entity,
the Specimen,
the Ribbon-like Thing.
How the humans think they know!
Show some respect, damn it.
Just one place, one tiny life in the stream of a moving world.
A single voice, fallen into hundreds of chattering echoes,
Each sound continuing beyond the residual silence.
Lifetimes create wake, love moves through human relations like
A rogue wave way out at sea comes rolling towards the shore.
Each droplet of water a moving part,
Each memory a wave in the ocean,
Each heart a body of water held still as glass or violently storming.
The finest details are complex machines
Designed to carry their significance
Follow their crease, hold their note
Until the body can move as one.
In her family, in her neighborhood no one was ready
to notice the swiftness how she turned into beautiful lady:
the riped apricots spread its softy shape,
alarming to start a harvest with no delay.
The girls around and her eldest sisters too
swallowed the calling to be in time to woo,
were ready to meet the matchmakers to negotiate the deal:
to fly out of parental nest was one desirable will.
silks of purple nylon
friction tugging on skin
the sorcery of suspension
the perfect spell of
physics strength balance
arms aching from the climb
hands aided
by adhesive resin
gripping fabric threads
Spider-Man-Me
wrap the silks
knot your limbs
bend and pull
hang
however you like
twisting, upside down
unfamiliar orientation
spin out wide
slow graceful turns
tuck in tight
rollercoaster fast
untangle to advance
ascend, muscles burning
arms tired, give way
feet unprepared
crash land on safe mats
palms stinging defeat
only a fledgling
testing new wings
The pressure
the color red has
deep dreams of what I thought I wanted
I re-imagine what the day means
for me
the quilted statements from society
to accessorize yourself
based on what its supposed to mean
Single parents celebrate it differently
with homemade photo shoots
and cupcakes with red icing
I gift flowers to my kids
and kiss them good morning
cause they are my loves
I make heart shaped pancakes
and slow down what the day means for me
unframing the nude woman
who once felt this day needed to be filled with an
outsider
complicating the function
this day should hold
passing the time
trying to force like
on a day, that fails to recognize
one such love isn’t concerning with anyone else.
No eye has seen, no ear has heard
what God is truly made of.
But when we stop, look and listen
He’ll explain to us His love.
Oh He’ll reveal the hidden things
when you begin to pray.
He’ll reveal what you need to know
If you have gone astray.
So to you, I ask the question
do you believe there’s more?
That God’s prepared for each of us
and you have so longed for?
