(Hour Twenty-Two-Maritza m. Mejia)
The view from my window
Through the reddest eyes I have known in a year
I see black,
dead of night,
2 AM.
Even the moon has grown tired.
There is no beauty
No great understanding
Not even a palm tree visible
Just black
And so we turn lights out
Another marathon done.
We steal away from our screens
Put away our dishes and spoils of war
We embrace the black
The dead of night
The end of light
Goodnight
such a lovely summer day to sit behind
my curtains with the window wide open
lots of sun and some sea breeze to balance it out.
Can see the glare of the sun on the rooftops across the road,
hear the neighbour next door playing the same boring music.
Writing, thinking in peace of a sunday morning,
all the windows are open across the road,
they are facing north
and complain no end through the cold season.
all i can see is light blue sky,
the sky dreams are made off,
summer weddings
a stretch of paradise.
Not a single cloud in the sky
and all the unused chimneys pointing towards the sky.
Probably I could have done something differently.
Can’t we always find a way to blame ourselves?
It’s hard to reconcile when one person is finished
but one is still bound in place by the memories.
They were good memories. Full of life and joy.
Perhaps I made the relationship revolve around me.
That doesn’t mean I didn’t love you.
Perhaps I could have shown it more—though
It always seemed we were happy and secure,
I grieved a long time when you left.
Send in the Clowns was my anthem for years.
But I realize that my destiny can’t be tied to someone
who leaves, or yours to someone who can’t move.
As we’ve discovered since, we can still care,
while knowing that the story we lived is over.
There were lessons to learn, but the long walk
we had together still brings me joy.
I loved those days, those days of innocence and
days of consequence. Sadly, you reached
the inevitable transition sooner than I did.
I understand. There’s peace in that.
The moon has gone to be with her lover
Falling stars flung like firebrands
to ward the paths toward heaven
A mile to midsummer
and she is full and dark
She will not be awakened
We chant psalms
and keen redemption
in the penumbra
A mile to midsummer
and she is full and dark
She will not be awakened.
The sun has risen
Almost in a teasing manner
Ever so slowly burning my tired eyes
Yet playful as usual beckoning the day
I cannot play today dear sun
For I need to rest these weary eyes
But dear writer I already miss you so
Dear sun I miss you as well even though you are burning my eyes through my skull
And making the birds ever so loud
But you have fun dear sun
I will catch you at your sleep
When the birds have gone
And my eyes can
Finally breathe
White blinds drawn across
My window. It’s 5 o’clock.
So yeah, it is dark.
In Idaho—we’ve both been friends,
First grade girl of innocence.
A memory that now depends,
Neither native citizens,
Meeting both our families’ ends.
Her— Arizona Mom made plans,
Me— Colorado family lands.
Now, that is where our story ends,
I miss her lovely little hands,
Time separates with sand.
We took our songs into the swings,
Up, Up away— balloon of dreams..
I’m leaving on a jet plane— stings.
We sang to groovy song moonbeams.
We’re tied by fragile memory strings.
She had such lovely auburn hair.
And emerald green her eyes
My eyes of blue we’d look to share
My blond haired windblown skies.
Yet, In my dreaming I still care.
Perhaps some day by chance we’ll meet,
We’ll push a grandchild in a swing.
The tunes we sang, we’ll then repeat,
Look in each others eyes and sing,
Missed songs of days gone bye.
I look out my window and what do I see?
I see my neighborhood slowly waking up.
There is dew or frost on the cars and lights coming on
Someone is walking his pup.
The sun is slowly lighting up the world
In colours so bright and clear
It is coming through the blinds, messing with my eyes
Good morning it says with glorious cheer.
Pale dawn to the east
behind the mountaintop,
I see the sunrise coming,
I can taste it in the coffee in my hand,
the cool kiss of rain,
the soft swirl of a breeze.
Morning’s pale light,
as I am, and always
missing you.
