Different looks and poisons

Make your web, unique and mighty

Curiosity draws them near you

Fear, or respect, run them away

Simple yet complex

Perfect and flawed

Irresistible and undesired

Daunting and appealing

Eight legs, one spider

Real or fake is a powerful tike

Poem 2: Summer Garden

Only the harsh wind

can open this blossom, the city

the cement gray sky

bringing out the red, yellow, and orange

of the petals, its people

The city, a morgue, no movement

in its capillaries

suddenly pumps to life

its breath, hot and muggy,

a four month dance,

flower of flames

Hour Nine

Write a poem about a spider. This poem should not rhyme.

Arachnid

By Patricia Harris

Living in the corners,

Making my own home

Within another.

Crawling around,

Avoiding any trying to smash,

Clearing pests to feed

Trying to survive in the concrete

Jungle.

The Spider of Eden

The Spider of Eden

The spider of Eden

With eight legs and a body

Spins its web from north to south

Blocks the gateway

With its silken thread

To match the mighty tarantula

Hour 9

The Broken Pact (9th hour)

Dear Daddy Long Legs,

Why are you so intrusive?

You have broken the pact

And now you must meet your demise by my hands

The Rules Read:

Don’t cross into the bedroom

Don’t get on the bed

Never stare me down and jump at me with such conviction

But like your many legs

You are full of daring motives

And now your reign of creepiness must be stopped

Sincerely,

The woman who wailed Valhalla as she hit you with her shoe

9: Spider

O Holy One
who governs the vast and endless spaces
between the galaxies,
yet cares for the sparrows sold two for a farthing,
you fashioned this wee eight-legged engine,
geometer of lethal gossamer,
fly-slayer, death-weaver, rain-catcher,
critter I swat with a furious slipper
if I spy him in the bathroom.

I cannot discern your purpose in making this creature,
bane of housewives, arachnid mascot of Halloween:
perhaps you meant to give your human poets
an example of patience and measure,
of fatal and unswerving concentration,
architect adept
at storm-sturdy structures of air and thread.

9 -warrior-

Each strand of web stretches across the void

vibrating as the spider dances toward its pray

each leg is part of precision instrument

conducting its lunch into a cacoon,

so many eyes watching, such a fierce

warrior, I think I will be leaving now.

Misunderstandings vs. Arguments

I’m going to the garden.

No, I’ll get the car.

What do you mean? It’s not too far.

Why do you always have to argue with me?

I don’t. Why do you think the garden is too far?

What? You said you were going to the car.

No. The garden. I’m going to the garden.

Oh… Be careful. It’s hot out there.

No, it’s not.

Eight Legs

Eight legs crawl through the day or night

Searching for the daily repast

Some they search under rock and tree

Others set traps or webs for preys last wandering

With dinner caught the cooking starts

One bite maybe two to marinate the meat

The spiders can wait for juices to flow

Then suck the husk till hollow and empty

Yes spiders they always have fun

Their eight legs hunting six legs

And the terrible Tarantulas can hunt

Those furry four-legged ones

Yes, spiders are everywhere

Will you see one?

Love at First “Light”

I did not become real until I spoke to your mother.

I was a dream, a wish, a hope, a thought in your mind’s eye.

When your mother spoke to me she gave me life.

When you met my parents and my cousin months ago,

in October and January,

I was sure they were who you fell in love with, oh not me.

I was only a girl on the go.

Who knew I would pass your way, and you would turn around.

Reawakening my love of “Big Head Todd and the Monsters”, Japan, old school R&B, and Phil Collins…

You a mirror to my heart.

How did you know Al B. Sure was my music video Doppelgänger, or that I liked the rhymes of Slick Rick?

Six months ago you saw me with my family and saw the “queen bee” next to her “baby bee”; yes, we are all beach babies.

Smiling, you witnessed my “light”, this I never knew.

How you saw a “light” that you could love, I can barely comprehend.

“Love at first light”, who knew you would become my friend?

Who knew you would love the ocean as much as me?

You parked the break, as did I.

You left the cupboard ajar, as did I.

You love to love as much as I.

No hug was too much, or too spur of the moment, even to play music before bed?

The coincidences, too many to name.

Are we one in the same?

Can you be my twin flame?

The stars align us in the sky.

They brought us together as miracles go.

You are a shooting star come true, a prayer, a wish that was dreamt long ago.

One I cannot say that I put into the universe all by myself.

Was it you who wished for that dream-girl long ago, or was it a mother’s prayer answered?

Your’s or mine, I cannot predict the time.

It is more than true… the ” light” you see in me is the ” light” I feel from you.

Feeling happy for no reason…

I have every reason to be happy and it’s all because of you.
