HOUR TEN
The Past: A Haiku
Stars of memories
dusting off the clouds we see
Truth trickling down
24 Poems ~ 24 Hours

your manic stage take brings to mind
the house of mirrors at a carnival;
the closer you come, the more
You begin to see the distortion. lean in,
‘bother it like a chained dog. not too close
for it will suck you in and you
are certain that there is no
escape once immersed.
in praise of gareth roi
O sweet-toothed gareth roi!
you are such a cool boi
you wrote a poem of praise
despite your brain daze
ahead of your time
even though it didn’t rhyme
who would have thought
your popcorn paean would’ve bought
thirty minutes extra rest!
for this you are surely blessed
MISSING YOU…
I had no idea that your death would mean the death of me.
Well a part of me. The part that loved you, more than I knew.
You among many, always stood out.
Your laughter and kindness never diminished, no matter what.
Someone needs this, someone needs that.
Don’t worry, Mom does it all, expecting nothing in return.
She’s there because you need her, she’s there because she cares.
I noticed on her fridge, there are pictures of you,
and you, and you. She loved her family and friends
more than most do.
She lent you that money, though she needed it to.
She wrote it off as a gift, what else, would SHE do.
Another stayed all summer, creating more debt
she opened her heart and her home, with no regret.
And when you were sick she was always there.
With your favorite foods that she would prepare.
Her heart was so large, I thought it would burst
you never hungered or needed, or suffered a thirst.
I cry as I write this, for I should have done more.
You loved me and hugged me, nurtured for sure.
Each tear I cry is love for you.
You said that I’d miss you.
You know that I do.
A chance upon a man a while back,
The regret shall not commence even if 100 million years have passed,
For all that love had not go wasted in spite of the fact that I have been rejected by him,
That love save me from bad premonition of the future,
That love help me imagined the future between us,
A household where I had children and grand kids,
A new hometown with a big lawn as I had always wish for a city girl.
Her breath tastes of stale apples
Her eyes shine like last night’s moon
When she talks of sweet nothings
The corner of her mouth pulsates playfully
Her eyes shine like last night’s moon
When she dances like a homeless cloud
The corner of her mouth pulsates playfully
Death comes and goes, I’m not home
When she dances like a homeless cloud
The rain sing songs to her dark hair
Death comes and goes, I’m not home
Time stops in heaven
The rain sing songs to her dark hair
Her breath tastes of stale apples
Time stops in heaven
When she talks of sweet nothings
What’s wrong with humankind?
For each other we don’t seem to care.
Compassion we must quickly find
because apathy is hard to bear.
We walk around the world without souls,
and tolerance is wearing thin.
We live in rabbit holes
but need to test reality with a pin.
What’s wrong with humankind?
We’ve lost feeling in our heart;
won’t mind,
to hear a loving word before you depart.

I remember the first time I was in a hallway with shrunken hips.
I remember the summer that I half disappeared, holding tight to my bones so they wouldn’t press out of my aching edges.
My peers would report a rattle, but I knew it was me. I wasn’t excellent against the wind and water, I just was.
Not a shrunken head, no voodoo doll,
Just a skinny girl with a too-big soul.
I is one thing to do it in the abstract,, but practicing on real people keeps me stuck in prose. But that is a start.
______, you are doing your best. You might not be doing as well as you would prefer, but right at this moment you are doing your best.
Life is hard and full of challenges, and clearly you are still trying, and that is wonderful.
The prompt this hour is to praise someone – how about praising yourself for a few minutes and set aside scolding yourself.
It is not just the power of positive thinking, it is reframing what feels like defeat into some kind of victory that will give you hope and energyl
Many people just give up totally. I know I have done so many times, but when you decide to give it your best again, let that be your reward,, that you are able to try,, and do not focus on results. They are not guaranteed. But if you argue with yourself when you put yourself down and feel wretched and self-loathing, it will help. It will help. And you can do it. You are a caring mother and a worthy person.
