21. Picnic

Almonds and cashews,
lemons and limes,
with berries of sorts,
off they went,
for a picnic.
A bright sunny day it was,
Until it wasn’t.
Little mushroom
with her big fat hat
became the umbrella
and saved the day.

Poem 8 – The Move

As I prepare for the move

Too many emotions all at once

I ask “What should I get?”

“Get an umbrella,

Oh, don’t you forget”

Said a friend

“Get an umbrella,

Better don’t forget”

Said the other

So I got two umbrellas

As I prepare for the move

Hour 21: Dreamcatcher

I saw a dreamcatcher today
Made of silken white threads
Woven together in a pattern
Of overlapping flower petals
Delicate, fragile
And it’s beauty accentuated by
Gentle pearls and soft petals
Mesmerizing in the way it swayed
In face of even slightest of breezes.
I imagine if the wind was harsher
It might carry it away
To another land where you don’t need to
Catch dreams to be able to sleep
Where pleasant dreams come to you
As naturally as breathing
And there it will find itself
A new dream instead of having to chase them away.

Hour 20 First time on a Florida Beach

Seagulls overhead

waves crash in the distance

umbrellas as colorful as striped beach balls

bikinis speedos

kites soar in the distance

looking further I see a barge ship,

wonder its cargo.

Sunny Isles has the bluest water

I’ve ever seen,

now New York beaches

look dirty and not as attractive.

Poetry Marathon Hour 21

Cityscapes and dreamcatchers:

You do such a beautiful job of blending cityscapes and dreamcatchers into your life. AS if you only feel inspired in the hustle and bustle then you step away and the peace just swells within you. As if you’ve finally gotten this one right – and I’m the one behind. You do such a wonderful thing when you wake up and take a deep breath before getting out of bed – and I wish I could do that too; but I just don’t seem to have the time. You have always been a year late – to every party we want to attend and all of a sudden you’re catching up and out pacing me. And as wonderful as that is – it really really is, I just hope you haven’t lost sight of the things that have been important to you all along the way.

I won’t -Hour 21

No, I won’t do it

I refuse to place an almond and an umbrella in any poem just randomly.

It isn’t raining.

I have cashews.

Why would I do that?

Why should I advertise almonds like that?

Especially in hour 21.

Next thing I know you will draw faces on eggs.

Hour 20- Tan(ned)ka

Bed under the sky,

Lying supine, opened eyes.

Patterns of the leaves,

Painting the azure with green,

Heaven was brought down for me.

Note: Tankas are written in the structure of 5,7,5,7,7 syllables respectively.
