One day a large elephant, who went by the unlikely name of Tim
Took a trail through the forest, to head over to the gym.
He came to a fork in the path and much to his dismay
Tim had totally forgotten, he had somehow lost his way.
He went to look at his pocket watch, realized he’d left it home
He tiptoed on his way, muttering with a groan.
Tim was lost, wouldn’t you know, he’d forgotten about the time
Tim was one strange elephant, he forgot things all the time.
A new day arrives
And you can’t hide
In the warmth of night
Anymore
You must go out
And about your life
Even as you put
Your brave face on
A new day arrives
And you still need to survive
Go out and about
With all the fear and doubt
But go you must
It’s the part of life
So put your
Brave face on
A new day arrives
A new chance to thrive
Even as world goes on and on
It’s a part of life
You can’t always cry
And more often than not
You gotta put your
Brave face on.
Prompt: “Personify an animal. Switch its trait. Example: a disinterested lion, a polite gorilla, an aggressive giraffe…”

Even the most delicious food does not appease me
I should be happy, but can’t help but be dyspeptic
They just got a puppy,
now I’m left disappointed.
How could they do this to me?
I was their only four-legged dweller.
Now I’m in a dark place,
oh dear,
maybe I’m being dramatic.
We went back & forth for so many years.
Even to this day, I still feel you right beside me.
I know you’ve moved on & I couldn’t be happier.
But just know if ever you need a helping hand or
even just a friendly face to smile at,
I’d come for you.
I’m ready for whatever manifests in this existential future.
Keep on working your magic & I’ll follow suit.
Whether it’s two ships passing in the night or
the passing of those you loved,
just never forget
I’d come for you.
We need the closure neither of us can get on our own
whether it’s on this side of the door or the other.
That’s why when nothing else seems to go your way
or when you don’t feel like you could carry on much longer,
I’d come for you.
In my textbooks
They list suicide analytically
Brain chemicals
Neurotransmitters
Depression.
But they fail to mention
The devastation
The brutal pain left
For the survivors to face
The questions no textbook can answer
Why, what were they thinking?
What was missing in their heart?
Or worse why was their heart so heavy?
Left notes don’t tell the whole story
Neither does the broken heart stories
Others share, but answers evade
Suicide is like walking in dark woods
At night
Fighting for a flicker of light
To guide us back.
A light that isn’t there,
that can’t be seen.
Adrift in guilt
In shame
In loss that never heals.
Always wondering, always broken
Nothing a textbook can fix
“I want to die.” said the suicidal girl
“If you have lived go ahead and die.” said grandma.
My mind is awake while the world is asleep.
I watch the sun set and the sky darken.
My mood set with it.
Yesterday I was strong.
Today I am tired.
I’ve been through so much and I’m not even that old.
Poems struggle to be written and I keep trying.
I take my hope out of the box and let it shine.
ANIMALS UNDERSTAND
I know I will never see . . .
One as lovely as thee.
With your wet nose and wagging tail,
Your antics, in my laughter make me wail.
You want to share my food . . .
And I want to have your mood.
As you seem to always be happy;
My puppy, always so yappy!
When you see me cry on the stair,
You nuzzle closely to repair.
Even if you don’t know my pain,
You whine with me to stop my rain.
Do not grow old and weak …
We are buddies that all should seek;
Love like yours is the ultimate goal,
For inside of you is God’s soul.

It’s so lonely down here
why can’t I be like other birds?
Soaring through the skies
wind beneath my wings.
I come out at night for a reason
I’m ashamed to be seen
my friends Kea and Kakapo
living the dream.
A flightless Kiwi
nose to the ground
I smell my own fear
of not being off the ground
A national treasure, I can’t die
protected from birth
I have my upsides, but dammit
I can’t fly!
