A Saucy Tale

It’s just a pan, right?
Sure, usually it’s meant for baking a cake
not a roast beast.

It’s just a memory, right?
This flashback to when I’d make the cake
and Momma would make the fudge sauce.

It’s just silly, right?
These tears threatening to fall;
I mean, it’s not like it’s spilt milk.

It’s just so hard, right?
Loving the part of you that once loved me
enough to make me chocolate sauce.

House in Snowy Mountains

Looking out these frosty window panes.
You’re away and the cold remains the same.
It pours through the walls into my veins.
Another lonely frigid night.
I reach out to touch the ghostly specter you left behind.
Praying that the snow will bring you in with its flurries.
The soft and silent fall relieves me of my worries.
Another hard night alone.
Staring at the white snow.

Prompt 9:

I was thinking I might take a cruise—

To somewhere with long Canadian light,

Where darkness, deep, is not so much,

And brighter flowers fill long sun hours,

Just south of Alaskan permafrost.

To view the bears, grizzled or white,

and glaciers glistening rainbow-bright,

Both, calving, one in summer, one not,

‘Mid frigid fingerprints of God.

Where spike and spire stand rock solid, bold,

As they’ve always done, since days of old,

And my little cruise ship will putter by,

Unnoticed by the massive sky.

Minute speck on the glacial slate,

Finite glitter, by grandeur great.

Shadowed Gray – Hour Nine

In the darkness
Twinkling stars, the strawberry moon
Speeding meteors

In the light
Bright sunshine, wispy clouds
Flying birds

And yet, the world is but a shadowed gray

Prompt 10 from the 2019 Poetry Marathon – Hour 8

Hour 8 : Just Another Friday Night

Just Another Friday Night (a Gigan)

Three queers are kissing in a sports bar

shaved head, sceptum piercing and tuxedo jacket

*

Three queers are kissing in a sports bar

losing the jacket and adding their sweat to

the one of those who come here every night

*

Three queers are kissing in a sports bar

because of the music, because they felt like it

*

and heir tongues have picked the strongest

beer because none of them is sober yet

*

The world is on fire and right there in the corner

three queers are kissing in a sports bar

*

But it’s okay cause the barmaid is a dyke

and she will find the jacket tomorrow.

Three queers are kissing in a sports bar

*

and all around them the bros

are falling like dominoes.

Hour 9: Prompt 9: Blanket of Snow

The blanket of snow reminds me of the simpler times

Days of no worries

Days of no requirements needing met

Day that did nothing but sooth the soul and quiet the mind

Oh how I miss those simpler days

#9

Lonely days and wasted nights

still wishing you were by my side

and honey there ain’t no reason why

you can’t be with me

So come along and take my hand

and with this kiss, I’ll help you understand

what it is for a man to love a woman

So come along and let me hold you tight

and together my darling, we can make it through the night.

Chocolate & Arepas

Hot cocoa brings me home

In cold days,

Warm me up.

Arepa brings me to Mom’s kitchen

In nostalgic moments,

Comforts my soul.

Mix ingredients

Round the dough,

Put it on fire.

Wait for a moment and…

Get back home!

09: Lavashak

Prompt: “Look in your cupboards and find a food that brings up a childhood memory, and the memory is your prompt”

It’s called lavashak,

fruity leather goodness.

I sit in the garden

the stray cat looking

for something as delicious

as what I have in my hands.

I peel the lavashak from its plastic confinement

first, a lick

so sour, makes my tongue tingle

then an unmistakable sweetness

marries the sour.

What bliss…

a five year old sitting on the concrete steps

sun beating down

and eating lavashak.
