First Tan Poem

I have tasted your fuller lips

And thirsted for so long to earn you back

The gospel of your words seals deep within me

Bashes of Roses you amuze in the truth

The substance of my soul is near

How understanding as I sit under you in prayer

Learning all about the master and king

His name is wonders

His love showers over me closed and closer

Sunlight in my eyes covers you from day to night

I wrote upon his temperament of a new poem

With my hands and eyes

How I can be myself allowing nothing to stop nor hinder me

A heartfelt heart to do of my best

Another endless tan

How I can bow down in trusting the anointed one in spirit

Come to me Like a Song

Come to me like a song
a half-remembered melody
Like promises I half forgot
to a certain special somebody!
Come now to me like my muse
with a tingle and melancholy
a song that tugs my heartstrings
rekindling pain from old follies

Come to me like an old song
That lifts me into a trance
nudging me from drills of drudgery
to new words and thoughts perchance!
Come now to me, like my muse
save me from dry despair
Let my ink flow like tears
my broken wings repair!

Friends Furever (Hour Three, A Somanka)

Friends Furever

Thwack thwack thwack! My tail

wags fast and furiously.

I lick your face, rest

my head on your chest, listen

to you breathe. You are my person!

I can’t help but smile

when I walk through the door and

find you waiting there.

You jump in my arms, we plop

on the couch. You’re my best friend!

****A somanka is a poem composed of two tankas written in two different voices, focused on a central theme of love. A tanka is a five line poem consisting of a syllable count of 5/7/5/7/7. I wrote this poem about the beauty of the bond between both of my dogs and me, even though I only spoke through one “rough” voice to symbolize both my furbabies.****

3. The circle is broken

Just yesterday you were here

providing to us all your good cheer.

Now you are gone,

leaving us bereft, lost and forlorn.

Death has robbed us of your Company.

We are left with only your memory.

That we will never see you, or hear your voice again,

a realization so stark and filled with pain.

From us you have gone too far

We know that in the safety of God’s hands you are.

Sometime, in Paradise, may we all be re-united together,

With our loved ones, forever and ever.

( Dedicated to my 2 cousins who passed on and broke the circle)

Grief

Grief

has a funny way of creeping up on us / one day / feel nothing / numb / another / feel everything / skin buzzing / hive mind / racing thoughts / confusion / resentment / acceptance / denial / back & forth / crescendo of emotion / again / and again / nothing once more / did you ever feel at all / ever stop / no / not once / brought to the surface / time / an ally / an enemy / your storm / your peace /

Subbing in America through Haiku: Hour 3

Colorful fliers greet them upon entry. Promises of utdoor games, slip ‘n slide, snow cones, a semi-scary movie, and prizes for best costumes. Sister Sledge on the intercom. We are family. I’ve got all my sisters with me. We bebop to the music. She balances neon-colored cupcakes and his bouncing topples his black hat. The procession halts so he can reattach the white skull sticker that she had taped on just moments before. Fake hook in the air, he hops up to tap the glass box that hangs next to his classroom for good luck, he says. She hurriedly places the bakery treats on the table already overloaded with individually wrapped Twinkies, single servings of party mix, bags of tiny pretzels, caramel apples crammed into cellophane wrappers and tied with raffia bows, personalized brown lunch sacks filled with popcorn and boxes of fruit punch juice pouches. She tries to catch his eye before dashing out, but he’s greeting his friends: Ahoy, matey! The first bell catches her in the doorway. We are family. Get up everybody and sing. Living life is fun and we’ve just begun to get our share of this world’s delights.

this be for monsters

he said with a one-eyed grin

glass still unbroken

Hour 3: Prompt 3: Shadow of my former self

The field looks nothing like I use to remember;

Lushous greenery creating pillows for your feet

Flowers that seemed to span for miles just hoping to make you feel whole again

Butterflies fluttering all about as if they were trying to send a message of what was about to come

Now…

Redness.

All I see is red.

Blood.

Murder.

Death of the person I use to be.

No longer the fun, bright soul that i had always hoped to remain.

Just a cold breeze sweeping through the darkness of red that I now call my soul.

Hour 4: Everlasting Love

Love lured him to the woods

Where he wrote her songs

of everlasting and eternity

of giving his all – his everything

Love was his heart and his hurt

She left him there

wasting away,

falling to pieces

Singing empty words with soundless tunes

and heartbreaking listlessness

He wants to speak heartache

But he gave his heart away

And no longer feels the hurt

or knows the love

or hears the songs

The Voids Desire (hour 4)

I draw on the intoxication and arousal, tempted by oblivion,

My darkened self, swells, merging with the possibilities of forever.

Her body, my temple of indulgence and brazen passion,

Our unity ordained by the baptism and blood born of purposes nether.

My desires soon met, her body displayed upon an altar of forever,

Her submittance complete, content to accept the ferocity of my passion,

Our fixate upon lusts savage form, absolute as souls entwined in disastrous nether,

My dominance of the lady’s entity nearing its most pure form of oblivion.

Her supple and damaged physique, receives my rewards of violent passion,

Our dance macabre endures the desires of flesh spawned of evil and nether,

My martyrdom of her faux innocence continues its ascent to obtain oblivion.

I segmented her limbs once, a culling to serve only my rancid ardour forever.

We have begun the newest discovery of flesh.

We have endured the climax of twinning passion.

We have seen the void and revelled in its eternity.

Oblivion.

Forever.

Passion
