Writing is my happy place, except when it’s not!

“In my little garden pretty” was the first line to the very first poem I ever wrote as a 7-year-old. I love words and making them work for me. I love laughter! Originally from western Pennsylvania, I am a coal miner’s daughter. Now residing in Lakewood, Colorado, I happily write at a mile high. My regular wordsmithing is as an editor/writer for a Women’s Ministry monthly newsletter (in year six!). I’m a professional editor and proofreader who has had several poems published in literary publications. When I was much younger, I aspired to be a baton twirler when I grew up. I partially fulfilled that dream by having careers in the education world (middle school through university level) where I had to spin as fast as I could to keep up with the students and advancements in teaching!

My horse, Morning Starr, and my 19-year-old feral cat, Mewzette, occupy some of my time when I am not creating with words. The Poetry Marathon is awesome!

self referential introduction (song) post

Big lol to anyone who gets the title!

This is my second marathon, and I am way too busy in my life right now to do it, but I am going to try anyway. Hopefully it will go well. I love poetry, sci-fi and horror, and I’m hoping to write some genre poetry.

Hello Again

I’m back. So excited to participate again. I wait eagerly every year. I was afraid I may not be able to participate because two days ago my arthritis was not making life good. Luckily it was all due to the weather and passed. WordPress was also not working for me, that too got straightened out. I’m here now ready to go. I have my snacks, music, and for most of the Poetry Marathon time I’ll have my house to myself. I’m sure my cat will demand attention but that’s okay.

Was 2014 the first Poetry Marathon? I keep all my Poetry Marathon stuff together and found August 23-24, 2014 was my first. Wow, I’ve become addicted to this event.

Good luck to all

Introduction

My name is James Featherstone, this is my second marathon. I only did a half last time. I am going to shoot for a full one this year, but not sure if I will be able to make it. Before last year’s marathon, it had been a long time since I had written anything. I had been neglecting many of my interests and last year I decided to do the things I like. It was very liberating for me to get back to writing. I am excited to join again this year and look forward to seeing what everyone contributes.

Gmazul Introduction 2022

My name is Gina and my happy place is swimming in open water. I am currently working my way back to training for and competing in triathlons after a break from racing due to pandemic cancellations & a surgery.

I also enjoy endurance events of the literary kind and have participated in 24-hour readathons, NaNoWriMo, and the 3- Day Novel Contest. The Poetry Marathon is my favorite writing challenge.

This is my 3rd year participating in The Poetry Marathon. I used only the hourly prompts for my poems both years. I plan to do the same this year! I like the spontaneity and challenge of waiting for the prompts to drop each hour.

Time for a trip to the store to stock up on snacks & green tea!

Crazy Gigi

I’m not turning back. No turning back. Those words push me through many situations. It’s too early for hindsight I think as I am typing this. When was the last time you were happily awake for twenty-four hours? Young adult art insomnia is the answer.

I am a Gigi that is raising the child that made me a Gigi and her aunt whom is soon eighteen. We live in a madhouse. One big pendulum of emotions. I haven’t really slept a full night in two years. We are pissy with potty-training rules, rules of the road, and plain ole stinking rules of life.

I typed in the answer to that one question so quickly that I should’ve known I’d done the same as always jumped without sight of landing safely.

“You don’t think about the big picture!” My teen tells often when her latest dream has not become my priority.

“ I believe that I do.” I say. Having learned that this conversation could go on for weeks if I don’t finish it.

“Well! You don’t think about it when you are accepting a new challenge. Maybe you think after you say yes!” She likes to look you in the eyes.

“That sounds right. I don’t have time to convince myself to turn away from something difficult that may help more than it is uncomfortable. You’re right about that!” I look in her eyes to confirm affirmation.

She and her teen brain chalk it up as defeat either way.

No turning back.
I need this for me, was the answer to the question.
I used all my working benefits to become a stay at home Gigi and take care of my granddaughter as her Foster mom until court says otherwise. During this time my daughter and I sought therapy as we added her brothers child into our space. It wasn’t easy, text book or fairytale.
I haven’t journaled really since graduate school. Haven’t spoken words of my poems in so long I don’t remember if I can Poet.

I will rest well tonight or not. I will have journal and pencil and pen on hand. I will set alarm for those hours I am sleeping and add to potty training routine. I will take time today to write my favorite words, imagined, royal, slang and every word in between. I’ll look over some forms and structures so that my gibberish might become real tings.
