About Me.

I am the Benita Olika. Most days I’m more of a reader than a writer, on others I write more than I read. You’d most likely find me doing one of the two when I’m not working.

This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while and “excited” doesn’t do justice in describing how I feel.

Introduction – 2022 Poetry Marathon

Hello fellow poets.

Summer is finally here and that means it’s poetry marathon time!! My name is Julianne (MacKenzie) Abend and I reside on Long Island in the state of New York within the country of the United States of America.  My household consists of my lovely husband and my dog aka “my sidekick”, Batman!

As this year progresses, so does the process of completing the many aspects of publishing a book – my first book of poetry. This continues to be a very exciting process for me.

Earlier this month, I was featured at an in-person poetry reading. The time before that, I was featured in an in-person poetry reading event in 2018. A lot had changed within me since then. I have learned (not mastered) the craft of reading poetry out loud to an audience. It’s a bit different than writing poetry for me. I write poems, as though they will never be read by me out loud. Now they are.

I am looking forward to writing poems hourly for the Poetry Marathan again. The first time that I was part of this event was in 2020. Honored, I had my last poem of the marathan published in the 2020 Poetry Marathon Anthology.

Good luck in your own writing ventures on Saturday.  Sending peace, love and good health to all who are participating. You got this!

😊

2022 Introduction

Hello everyone!

I’m River (they/it) and I’m from the rural reaches of Maine. I’m a queer, cripple, mad, anarchist writer whose work is heavily influenced by those identities. Namely, I write poetry but flash and short stories also happen from time to time.

I spent a decade working as a social worker after graduating college and left the field at the end of 2020. After spending 2021 trying to find new employment, I finally listened to my body screaming that I couldn’t do traditional employment. Thankfully I have a supportive community behind me while I deal with life and disability.

I attempted to participate last year but was unable due to issues outside of my control so I’m excited for this year.

Poetry Marathon Prep Pt. 3

This is my first time participating in the Official Poetry Marathon – and I thrive on the community aspect. So I’m excited to lean into that culture of togetherness, while also putting my personal spin on this event. So I’ve got everything set up to host a 24 hour charity live stream on twitch.tv during the official poetry marathon. There will be prompts – for people who choose to use them, and space to share the things you create, and lots of amazing people to cheer us all on as well!

As I prepare for this event, I’m planning meal prep for the day of to save on time and energy, I’m working on gathering prompts, I’m promoting the stream, and I’m celebrating our charities as well! The charities I’m encouraging the support of during this event are To Write Love on Her Arms and The American Academy of Poets. I’m also pre-saving posts to release on my social media accounts with prompts for every hour – each account will have different prompts so people can pick and choose what works best for them.

My Fifth Poetry Marathon

Hello and Namaste to all old and new fellow marathoners.

This is my fifth time. I am really exited. nothing more to add.

Just waiting…

With love

@varenyas

Hello

This is my first half marathon. I like the idea of writing 12 poems in one day as they are more likely to follow a theme.
