19 Living Light

The light of the world
Is love
Lots shines bright
In every happy heart

The light of the world is love
Let it bloom and blossom at all times
In every heart there is a plant

Never give up on a blooming heart
One that gives light to the loving heart.

I Survived the Poetry Marathon

The following images are part of the Poetry Marathon Tradition. They are for you to do with what you want, but they are often used as a way to celebrate your success.

The official list of everyone who completed the half marathon and the full marathon will be released in the next few days. Remember if you are not on the list it probably has more to do with our algorithm than with you, and please reach out so we can correct it.

Too Controlled? Self portrait

I breathe deeply through everything. Sometimes I do scream at it.

Lately the runner is resurfacing.

For a living I help with trauma.

Lately I want a big break.

I have a passion I don’t get to express enough.

I care but I’m feeling depleted.

I listen and still help but resent the energy use.

there’s a level of presence that everyone of my life – clients and family seem to expect and secretly I want to withdraw it.

They expect it because I’ve nurtured and cultivated it through meditation and years of therapy.

I’m emotionally present. I show up. I give. I engage.

But I’m tired now.

Is this what Burn out looks like?

Insurmountable?

A Pantoum

Insurmountable?

Tower of Babel

As high as the eye could see

Insurmountable

Never say, “Never.”

As high as the eye could see

Just put one foot in front of the other

Never say, “Never.”

Don’t quit when others say, “Why bother?”

Just put one foot in front of the other

Insurmountable

Don’t quit when others say, “Why bother?”

Tower of Babel

The system is not broken

A reminder for us all that the system is not broken. It is here to maintain and perpetuate what is was here to maintain and perpetuate.

What systems are you maintaining today?

Ode to The Poetry Marathon

Hr. 12 Prompt 21

Fours years ago I first became involved in this. Hadn’t written in years. You accepted me with open arms for the 24 in 24 hours. I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to get started. How nice it was to be encouraged, accepted, and a part of something. I only made it to 21 but you made me feel great for accomplishing them
And you published me in the marathon book. Elated I was to say the least. This Poetry Marathon is the best. Dating, having a baby made me miss the next two marathons. 2020 hit with a pandemic and you still held it, I joined in again doing the 12 hour. It was a blast, I finished them all, what an amazing feeling. And yet again you published me, thank you thank you. You all are amazing poets and people
Thank you for yet again letting me join on this years marathon, I finished again
I am honored to be a marathoner beside the caring, encouraging people in this big group of poets. Ok I think I’m finished now, no wait, I absolutely love The Poetry Marathon.

Hour 24 Poem 24 Sonnet

I’ve waited for you,

My friend, my companion, my lover,

As a woman, it’s not my job to pursue,

Rather I wait for you to discover,

All that is great within me,

Dare you present yourself,

Come unto thee,

Unconsciously, I know you have felt what I’ve felt,

Soulmates in a world of lost souls,

Failing all others, as we search for us,

Hang on as I take control,

Cautiously aware of my deep mistrusts,

Yet, I am ready for all that is to come my way,

Long enough, I’ve waited, no time to play.

I wish I had the stars

I wish I had the stars

that we saw, midnight walk

through uncut grass, broken

bridges holding our dance.

I wish I had the stars

that I saw in your eyes,

the twinkle of the Dipper

reflected on your car.

I wish I had the stars

to show me God never

failing, a hope to love,

stars of a goodnight kiss.

Hour 25 – Insurmountable (image)

See that cliff?

It’s insurmountable

But there’s a flag on it.

Which means that’s not true.

It’s my flag, this is my marathon

But it’s your flag too.

Because we did not climb alone

We walked together, side by side

And while some faltered and stayed behind

We brought them in our hearts

You surmounted the insurmountable

You just needed to not do it alone.

Hour 24 (2021)

I was asked where
I feel most at home.
The simple answer being
inside of poetry.
The more complicated answer?
Inside of poetry.
And I wouldn’t change a thing.
